axelcat 04-09-2004 02:36 PM

I think mine has been on for 3 months now

Rob 04-09-2004 02:44 PM

I can't find the power button on mine. The only time it shuts down is when it crashes. :thumbsup

I heard a long time ago that it's better to keep it running than to constantly power on and off.

Lucy 04-09-2004 02:45 PM

I am always on too!:thumbsup

since the last time the power went out...few weeks or so ago.

Baal 04-09-2004 02:55 PM

I need to reboot my W-i-ndows XP system every 2 days. The only reason is memory leaks with Internet Explorer suck up all of my memory (Only use it for compatibility checking of sites; Mozilla otherwise).

My FreeBSD server (I use it to test my code) has 183 days of uptime :thumbsup It would have 90 days more uptime, but I had to unplug it to move it.

adamneve 04-09-2004 02:57 PM

over a week

Firehorse 04-09-2004 03:05 PM

Most of the pc's here have been on for a week.

garett 04-09-2004 04:56 PM

I left my computer on 24/7 until I got an electricity bill for $3600 and a disconnection notice. That's when I started turning it off at night before going to bed.

An unpatched system, ...where did I put that NTroot kit?

magnatique 04-09-2004 05:11 PM

something wrong with your comp for such a bill...

the difference is like 20$ not even here... I got 3 comps on at all time, 2 screens, etc...

my uptimes are low though, I encode a lot, edit a lot... it's hard on the memory and I love having a clean pagefile/memory buffer

plus, I always have to reboot to insert new hard drives in... about to get a fireware cage for hard drives.... I'll put 2 TB live and will cut on the reboot time LOL

lol .. it was a futile attempt at humour .. but with electric heating in the winter my bill seriously was $500 / mo.

We've really started cutting back on electricity consumption .. which includes turning the computer off at night... and the computer does suck a lot .. Athlon XP 2500+, 500W PSU, 4 IDE drives, 5 case fans etc.

Screaming 04-09-2004 05:58 PM

all day most of the time, only reboots or when cables down

nathan_f 04-09-2004 05:59 PM

my machine has been up since i bought it around 2001, it only goes down for reboots once in a while. the longest it's been off was for 'the great blackout of 2003'.

just changed the mobo last today actually, nothing wrong with the old one, it'll be put into another case where it will run until it dies.

warlock5 04-09-2004 06:28 PM

I had this machine up for 21 days without reboot last month. Guess some of you guys got me beat by a long shot ;)

Wilber 04-10-2004 01:23 AM

I even made it easy to spot. uptime.exe would report "429 days"
as "1 year 64 days etc".
