I have netware servers that have been up for years at client sites. They're on UPS systems to cover power.
If you own a hahahahahahas based product, Power cycle it ever day is my suggestion. Better yet, shut it off during the day when not in use. RAM becomes fragmented power cycle gives you a fresh start. You're just drawing dirt and dust when you're not in front of it. That increase temp of components You're open for a hack. More time = more chances of an attack, esp if your not in front of the screen. Wear and tear on fan bearings and HD motor if it is spinning and prolly will at least part of the time. Added heat will reduce life of components more than power spikes at turn on/off. Saves energy, make Al Gore happy. Cause I said it was better and I',m a EE. I leave mine on all the time anyway. If it breaks, a new computer :-). Remember to defrag HDs once a week children. Oh and run spybot and adaware too. |
