i might have possed this before - but fuck it - lets let it roll again.

Do you believe in Destiny/Fate?

Although I believe I controll my own destiny I also have always had a sense of some of the things in my future and where I would be at certain points in my life. There's been about 5 points that somehow I have always known are true and will happen - and 2 came true about when they were supposed to in my life.

there's three left.

I gave up on one of the remaining three about 6-7 years ago not really believing it could come true and then suddenly i got a strong sense of it again. Now I'm left with a huge decision - do I drop everything and trust my fate to what I've always somehow known to be my path OR not believe in any of this mumbo jumbo and carry on with my life.

I believe in destiny/fate. It may not be obvious but when things seem to fit a pattern, you know that you are not the only person in charge of your life.:2 cents:

I believe, and I also agree with term that 'you got what you want in your life'.
there are moments in life when you FEEL that there is something like destiny.

I dont, I beleive more in probabilities.

not absolute control, but influenced by decisions/actions.

Does it matter what you do? If theres fate then it will happen no matter what you choose...

Can you really call it fate or is it more of just a gut instinct. They aren't exactly the same.

good point - but i still believe free will and fate are intertwined in some sort of sadistic plan to let you 'feel' like you have controll of your life - so that if you make the wrong decision you'll be punished by thinking 'what if' forever.

instinct wouldn't be the correct term - considering the ods of the first two of my 5 points that have occured in my life. I believe there is some sort of actual forcasting involved - be it on a gut instinct level.

I think R. Lee Ermey said it best in Full Metal Jacket "You are the Asshole in charge of your own Destiny!"

With that said I don't think destiny/fate is set. I think people get to somewhat control destiny.

Beleive in Karma.

What goes around, comes around and what goes up it must come down.

i embrase karma as a religion - EVERYTHING I do COMES back to me. good and bad.

There is "destiny" and you do have some controll over it.

We make our own destiny, our own fate.
I don't actually believe in fortunetellers.
If you believe what they say, you're allowing
them to manipulate your life.

what if the 'fortune telling' is a voice from inside of you?

And yes, there is logic and there is silent knowledge - it's like a feeling, like intuition. Every human knows how to act best in a given situation, but the logical brain usually takes over and a person makes the wrong decision. If you turn your logical brain off and allow your intuition to surface - you will know the right answer to anything.

Of course its much harder than it sounds. But you can develop your "sixth sense "

That would seem to negate a big hahahaha of work known as "physics."

Most humans die, that is correct, but you can set yourself free.

The ultimate goal of any being would be the stop to the circle of deaths and rebirths. Most beings die and then reincarnate in other forms - human, animal and many others, because they have negative Karma. By totally getting rid of the negative Karma one can break free from this circle of deaths and rebirths and become free forever (one with the universe - it's really unexplainable)

There is one teaching by following which a person can stop death and rebirth circle in one lifetime (most regigions and teachings take hundreds and thousands of lifes to free yourself)

Does free will exist? Are free will and destiny mutually exclusive, or can both things be true at the same time?

Maybe "awareness" or "consciousness" is just an evolved thought process that helps our slightly-improved monkey brains function without seeking self-destruction, which is inevitable.

This is an absurd concept to the rational mind -- to struggle for survival when death is inevitable -- so we need to "believe" in free will so that our species will continue.

"Suffering" is a Buddha-buzzword. But "suffering" may be right up there with "beauty" in that list of things that exist in the eye of the beholder.

The point of you (or any other being on this planet) is to suffer.
By suffering you are getting rid of your negative Karma. When you get rid of all your negative karma you get to Nirvana and you no longer die or get born.

Even if you are filthy rich and have everything you want to - you still suffer. You know it's true, even if you don't want to accept it.

Not believing in fate/destiny got me where I am today.

Fuck fate.

I happened to go to Church's Chicken one day over two years ago and I got out of the car and saw this big booty female inside...I rushed inside and introduced myself to her...She came home with me right then and we ate lunch together....She just happened to live right near I used to live but she just moved...

We have been the closest of friends ever since and now that she is moving for the third time since I've known her, she will now be living in the house two doors from mine...

Now our children will be playing together and we'll be spending even more time together...I told her before she was approved for the house that it was FATE that we were supposed to be together.

So YES I do believe in fate and destiny.

I believe how do you want your life, you can make it, but also I believe in destiny. For example, if two people are suppouste to be togeter they will be, doesn't matter how far they live.:thumbsup

great question Sleazy! I do believe in fate and destiny but there are limits to it as well. I believe that we are destined to certain things and have a certain outcome but we are in control of the paths that we will take. That's what makes it so difficult. The choices we choose and things we do make us what we are...


Which is why I believe in karma. Treat others the way you want to be treated b/c it ALWAYS comes back and kicks u right in the ass in one way or another...:winkwink:

Yes for the most part. I think people & opportunities come in and out of our lives for reasons that we may not understand but somewhere it makes an impact on our life and causes fate.

I think it is something you can not chase or influence directly there is a saying "Life Happens when your not Looking" meaning if you are constantly looking for your destiny you will miss what is right in front of you!

I believe in destiny...I believe in fate...I *also* believe that I step in and fuck up their plans for my life almost daily

I believe in destiny/fate, without question.

But I also believe that we also have full control of our own lives, to some degree.

I mean, I look back on things and find it interesting how everything has fallen into place, even when I tried to change how things were going. So destiny has certainly played a role in my life. But if I were to start living wrong, drugging etc. I'm sure I would have had the ability to steer my destiny a different direction.
