Cheap labor

Just curious, how many of you would prefer cheap labor from india, etc... or how many of you believe in 'You get what you pay for'?

My workers in the Philipenes are amazing. :glugglug

Good to hear, i don't have anything against the people that can work dirt cheap (other than people expecting me to work that cheaply) but alot of clients of mine have been burnt by them, and even with the exchange rates and everything, $4 - 7 bucks an hour for custom development seems cheap (although i'm not sure how much that is for they're cash). I can't possibly compete with that, i'd be better off flipping burgers at McDonalds, atleast then i'd get benefits.

webmasterlabor.com cheap labor works for me :) you do get what you pay for but, ... just because something's cheap doesnt mean its not quality and just because something's expensive doesnt mean it is quality.

Intrigue 02-23-2004 07:27 PM

Your right, expensive isn't always better, and cheap isn't always worse, but hypothetically, if you got a free copy of a script, would you go for the $250 script, or the $15 one? :P

EDIT: i also realise that by me charging more, i'm taking more responsibility, i feel obligated to make my clients money worth it, and if i were getting those rates (personally) i wouldn't put in any effort, and certainly wouldn't include any of the extras i do now.

I guess i should of worded the poll differantly. What's everyones thoughts on this.

Is there any money left in development, due to the high availability of $4 - 5/hr programmers, it seems like more and more people are outsourcing overseas. Don't get me wrong, i stay busy, but recently my workload has been dropping, especially bigger projects.

There's a rating system at http://www.scriptlance.com

Sure, there's tons of foreign developers who can crank out a $500 script for $50 but not all quality is the same.

You can judge quality by the number of rankings a particular developer has at scriptlance

Yeah, i know scriptlance, everytime i bid on a job, i get underbid by someone claiming they can do it for $5 in 1 day (it's always the same person! lol) even if it's a large project, so i don't go there much, i primarly get my work from here, and webhostingtalk.com

You get what you pay for

Most of us on this board are self-employed. That's why its a good idea to have a cheap labor source so your costs are lowered and your profits increase.

You get what you pay for:) Most definately!!!

You do get what you pay for. But over time, it's all going to start equalizing.
