Can you compete with a mailer?
 

Was having a discussion with someone the other day, and it came up that people who run galleries, or tgps or free sites or avs upsells or whatever can't compete with a mailer with a productive list. Do you think it's possible? Discuss.

TGP owners can't even come close to real mailers.

not in terms of raw joins, but since bulk mailing is at heart a scam and becoming illegal they'll beat you in the long run.

not ALL bulk mailers are scammers, but it's a scammy type of thing and even the 'good' ones won't be able to resist that easy money they're used to when it's no longer legal.

Went into effect January 1 2004, signed by George W. Bush.
Spam is legal as long as you follow a couple of requirements.

IMO, mailers cannot compete with TGP galleries, AVS, or freesites.

However, it is a tricky business to get into, and the consequences for taking a step into the wrong place are very high.

Interesting take on it. An established mailer can send 100 - 500 joins in a mailing, and a run of the mill webmaster sends what? 500 - 1000 sales a month?

I'm surprised you wouldn't be close to competing, you had more than a handful of good SE listings (and still do). :winkwink:

The stats for a run-of-the-mill webmaster is a bit overstated. I'm thinking 150 sales a month sounds reasonable (averaging about 4 sales a day).

Well I do mailings too (own harvested double optin) doing 6K$/mailing (200 joins)... it's a start:thumbsup And the google thingie.. no way near 100 joins/day. Not by a long shot:thumbsup

Apart from the money thing... the work for (SE) spamming is so much more bearable (and interesting) than the daily grind of running TGPs.

to go back on topic: yes there are legit honest mailers outthere too! people who work their ass off to get some nice join4free sites up with real niche specific content for the surfer.

Nothing as good as a fresh list of niche specific emails! Anyone who trades their legit list is crazy IMHO
