PC user switching to a MAC....
Easy to pick it up or would it be difficult cause of being used to a pC for years? Any switchers here?
|
its easy. did it a little over a year ago. :)
|
It's really pretty easy for real. I started using a mac when they ran DOS, then I used a pc for a long time and finally when I bought my first computer when I was about 21 I bought a mac and haven't gone back since.

macs are for faggots and other sorts of liberal hippy types
:2 cents: |
I'm so sorry.
wave goodbye to all cheap hardware, nearly all software, and your second (and third) mouse button, along with the scroll wheel. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh |

Very easy transition. I had never seen one or worked on one and I was hired at a company that MAC was required.... I fibbed and said I was proficient with that as well as a few programs I didn't know and by the end of the week I was using the new programs on the mac like a champ, nobody was the wiser. :thumbsup

macs are for idiots who cant keep a PC clean, stop downloading so much beasty porn and PC will give u no probs.
|
convinced my friend that his mac was a P.O.S (basically since i had the same one and hated it). for years he used & loved his mac then moved to a PC & has been using it for about a year.
his latest job has got him back on a powerbook and he fucking hates it now more than ever. |
Juicylinks,
after 1 hour of using a Mac, you will wonder why in the hell you let a PC be so difficult. Seriously, they are super easy to use. Do yourself a favor and get some video and play with the editing in IMovie or Final Cut Pro, they just integrate so smoothly. Only thing, once you use one, that Apple store is a scarey place to be. You can buy a car for what it cost to fill up that new box they have with Memory :) I have the Powerbook. I run everything from it. Never had an issue. |
its like switching colognes. you left drakkar to go to coolwater. it wasn't that hard was it?

It takes a while to get used to the key commands, not hitting control V, etc. Besides that it couldn't be easier, macs are easy to use and I've never seen performance on a pc like I get from my powermac. :thumbsup

And, I use a USB Wacom tablet with wireless mouse (which has a scroll wheel, and a right button, both useable) with my iBook. NEXT! |
I just got a Mac a month ago.. Very easy to learn love the new system.. I still run windows XP on my lappy.. OSX is pimp the haters are just hating..
|
I use both.. I have a g4, and an iBook. My problem with the mac is sometimes it was to simple. Sometimes I would over think what i was trying to do.

Go, Macs, go :)
|
Once you go Mac you'll never go back :Graucho
very easy transition, you'll LOVE it ! I use Macs since my first IIsi in 93 (9 Mb Ram and 105Mb HD.. WOW). You'll also love the speed, actually my "old" G4 500 Mhz is still faster than my Athlon 1.6. Way more stable, no freezes or crashes. And you are almost out of reach of virusses too :Graucho Give yourself the time to learn how a Mac works and you'll love it (it won,t take long anyway) WinDoZe 95 was a copy of our system 7 but with way more bugs.... l like the mac also, but for video galleries i have not come across any mac software to cut video files like http://www.brizsoft.com/avisplit/ that is for the pc.
What do mac guys use to cut their vidoes easily for mgp galleries? |
I think it would be easy, but that's just me!

If you can't secure a windowze or *nix box. You should not be a webmaster. And people who defend macs are either old or stupid. For both of those groups macs are great. |

If I was a non-technically inclined webmaster looking for a stable and low maintenance box I would go Mac without a doubt. It's not *nix but it's a damn site closer than Windows will ever be (despite pillaging BSD code). |
Now I think about it. If I was to switch to a MAC I might as well buy some IKEA furnishings.

AND if your mac hard disk gets corrupt.... your ocmputer can get majorly fucked because of the way the file system works. ITs alo impossible to do file recovery your self on a mac (as far as I know) 90% of My traffic uses windows and IE..... so thats what I'm gonna use for everything related to site development. I want to see what the mjority of my surfers see. :2 cents: |
A mac is more expensive and you can do fewer things on it.
Switch to Linux instead; bigger market share and more software. |
The wise people who have bad things to say about a MAC have never used OSX. OSX is built on BSD, it is Unix. Unix is far more mature, stable and secure than anything designed in Redmond.
The key is sofware. I switched about six months ago, it took about an hour to become comfortable with the MAC but some of the applications I use are only available for Windows. I run Virtual PC on my Powerbook for those few applications. Most video software is available and superior on a MAC, not so with accounting and other business products. I would NOT go back to Windows, I would consider Linux as it matures but for know the Mac with OSX is the best money can buy. |
macs were utter shite until osx.. now it's virtually more about what you prefer or are used to or whether you want to fork out the extra $ just to have a mac... or whether you can get the same software and games... or the fact that their keyboard shortcuts are crap... no more uber fast work doing logical moves through nav bars like alt-l-t-r.. you've got to map everything.
the other reason not to use a mac is probably being lumped in with noobie mac users and retarded hardcore macolytes :) but besides that.. they're fine. And I wouldn't throw away a g5 laptop with finalcutpro. |

hmm... just got my 2nd powerbook this week. windows has its place,(not on the server imho), so does macos. and linux
and solaris and *bsd. I use them all. I like my pb because I have the tools I use everyday, builtin (unix shell tools vi, perl, php, apache, sed, awk, etc ) and photoshop, painter, illustrator, quark, lightwave. A ddecent browser with safari, a decent mail app. out of the box. You can do ms office, or star or open. then there is itunes, imovie, idvd. final cut pro, etc. Sure you can get the same types of apps on a pc, but you get a lot of extra baggage there as well. The constant barrage of security holes are a prime example why. add things like ie holes(many still unpatched), and things look even better on the mac side. of course, you also go linux on a laptop as well. or desktop, doesn't matter. however if you are complete newbie to unix, thats probably not the best idea. Can try if you like. I've talked, at last count, 14 people into converting from a pc to mac (powerbooks in most cases) in the last year. Every one has been VERY happy with OSX. |

your other statement? You need some education on what html is, what jpg (gif, etc) files are, what standards are. And the knowledge that IE works just fine on a mac. Its EOL'd, but it works. Several other browsers(opera, moz) give you the option of sending 'msie' as the user_agent string, you may not have as many IE users as you think. |

Edit: Also do you have any links to info on recovering files from a mac drive. I seriously need some good software for that. |
why learn how to use a mac?
you obviously haven't correctly learned how to use a pc |
