WTF?! Fucking UPS guy is about to lose his job!

Couple of minutes ago, I hear both of my dogs going nuts and the sound of a large-type engine. figuring it's either someone who's lost or a delivery, I go to the door to see my dogs barking at the UPS truck.

Now, both of my dogs are on their tie-outs. They can't reach the driveway from there, but they can certainly make enough noise to get my attention, which is the idea. No lie, the guy driving the UPS truck is in the truck with a fucking handgun pointed at my dogs!

He sees me and tells me to call off my dogs before he shoots them. So I holler back "wait a minute", go grab my phone and call UPS's local office, give them the truck number and the license plate number and tell them what I see. The woman on the other end of the line is absolutely shocked and asks if I'm sure. I say yes, I'm sure, and she thanks me and gives me a complaint number to verify later if I want to know the outcome of this, but says she bets her own job that this guy is fired for this, because UPS drivers are not to be armed.

I set the phone down and tuck the .38 in my jacket pocket and go back outside and demand my parcel. He gives me the parcel and tells me I shouldn't have dangerous dogs and that next time he has to deal with them, he's going to shoot them.

I go off. I tell him he doesn't have to deal with them, they're tethered quite securely, they're doing their job, and the next time he threatens to shoot someone's tethered up dogs, he'll be lucky if he's not shot himself and to get the fuck out of my driveway. He stares at me a second, and I ask him if he's gonna threaten to shoot me next.

He leaves, I'm pissed, and the sadly funny part is this isn't even my damn package. It belongs next door.

Once I walked out side, if he still had the gun pointed at my does, I would've pulled the .38 out and said, to put the gun back! hehe, but I'm just a asshole, I hope the fucker loses his job, that's not right for for fucking UPS workers to be armed!

Trust me, there won't be a next time. He's fired. He's going to get fired for carrying a gun, the end. If he has a Class A or Class B cdl, which you have to to work for UPS, you are not allowed to carry a firearm of any kind. If DOT stopped him and found that they would take his gun and probably his license. You should call DOT on him too ;)

Where do you guys live a warzone?

Not a bad idea. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

crockett 01-23-2004 02:21 PM

well I duno what kind of dogs you have but.. if they are mean enough to attack the guy if they got lose then IMO they shouldn't be left un attended in the front yard..

Just think if a little kid comes by and the dog attacks the kid... you would be the one in the wrong not the kid.

Not saying him pointing a gun was right but hell the guy could have been really scared of dogs.. which if that was the case he should have stayed in the truck and beeped his horn. Of course the gun was way overboard. Not taking away from that, but if the dogs could attack someone they shouldn't be left un attended in the front yard.

Tera 01-23-2004 02:23 PM

God Damn thats insane, good for you for getting the gun and calling UPS.. I get so pissed when stuff like that happens, I would be bad with a gun, I would have pulled it out on him..

Somebody hit my cat when I was younger, I straight knocked the guy out and he fell into my bathtub, needless to say everybody left and took him away too.

Eric 01-23-2004 02:24 PM

Yeah and I am sure that that lady in San Francisco thought those dogs were securely kept behind that door they broke through to get to her and maul her to death. Why not just wrack it up to the fact that your dogs scared the shit out of the guy and he was just making sure he didn't end up in the same situation. He didn't shoot, you took care of the situation, call it a day.

But see, that's the thing. These dogs are big pussies and are just used for the noise value. They like people too much and probably thought the guy wanted to play frisbee. *sigh*

Maybe his replacement will be better.

I only got stopped once for a full DOT. Had a brand new truck and trailer, knew everything would check out, just wasted a bunch of time. Had to go inside a few times, had my log book looked at which isn't a big deal because I never ran illegal and always kept it up. I didn't have a permit or something for Colorado and had to have the company fax one in. I was in there for a long time and my partner was in the truck freaking out. When I got back I told him we both got fined $5000, his jaw hit the floor, I had to tell him I was just fucking with him. He had just gotten me good when I saw smoke coming from the rear tires at the pump, thought they were on fire from coming down the mountain. It was a pickup truck on the other sides exhaust lol.

the FedEX guy who delivered this letter was sure glad i didn't have a gun:

Fact is, he was carryign a weapon while driving for UPS. He was still in his truck. The dogs were not lunging at him, just barking. If the tow-chain (!) had broken, he could have shut the truck door. He could have honked his horn.

One of these dogs is still a puppy. they're both people-friendly, (granted, he doesn't know that.)

He went too far and I have a right to be pissed off about it. :feels-hot

Why can't I get opportunities like this...

You can File a law suit against UPS, file for Assault with a deadly weapon you will be rich beyond compare...

Dont get mad.

File suit.

fyrflygrl 01-23-2004 02:35 PM

Tala, I'm in Tennessee, too... waaay east, very close to Virginia... I know your pain...

My hometown is great... I absolutely love it, but driving 30 miles into the country is the equivelant of driving 30 years backwards in time...

Poor girl! If you see the UPS man around.. run over him with your car or something ;)

Fyrflygrl

DWB 01-23-2004 02:38 PM

you should of capped his cracker ass... :ak47:

gornyhuy 01-23-2004 02:39 PM

Instead of picking up the .38 you should have picked up your camcorder and recorded the whole incident so you would have a solid case against him and against UPS...!

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-23-2004 02:41 PM

I have a camara on me nearly 24-7.

I've gottin some pretty good stuff but nothing like this!!!!
I got some pretty good pictures of a neighbor getting his ass kicked by a tow truck driver trying to tow his car!:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Some people have all the luck...

Sly_RJ 01-23-2004 02:42 PM

If I was in Tennessee I'd be carrying around a gun too. Pointing the gun at your dogs was stretching it, but I'm sure those guys deal with a lot of people that have crazy dogs. Some dogs are scary as shit, especially if you're already afraid of dogs.

Sue UPS? Geeze - we are so freaking "sue happy" here that it just boggles the mind that you'd sue a company for something an individual did. Not to mention, Tala didn't suffer. She's not out anything. There is no loss.

I hope our UPS guy has a gun. We live in the woods and there are a enough deer, bear and wild dogs where you'd be nuts not to carrry one.

Bottom line - nothing happened. No harm, no foul. But if you want to talk about "what if....", had the dogs attacked him and the UPS guy gotten hurt, Tala and her husband would have been sued.

It's over. Let it go, fellow Southern Babe. :winkwink:

It strikes me that you're too young or something to realize how truly fucked up that is. If you had the wherewithal to call UPS and complain, you should have had enough thought to realize that picking up a gun to go met him was truly stupid and frightening. If you were afraid enough for your life to feel the need to have a gun, then don't go, call the police. It's situations like these, plus one messed up culture, that causes the US to have such high crime rates.

If you had shot him, you'd been convicted. Protecting your pets, while I love my cats and would feel like killing the bastard myself, is not justifiable in taking another's life. Especially since you have shown to have given this thought and wasn't spur of the moment.

It's also sad that few GFYers appear to call you out on this.

Ice 01-23-2004 02:52 PM

I have been bit by a dog before so I would have done the same thing. Im sure the the delivery drivers and mailmen get this a few times a day.

You have to remember that even though you think your dogs are not dangerous, there is no way the ups guy can know that.

And you putting a gun in your jacket.. smart idea.. he is a UPS driver not a guy in a ski mask. How to make a situation worse.

Now answer this..... Say UPS guy gets bit...can't work for a few days..that effects his ability to put food on the table. Not to mention the rabies shots hurt like hell from what I hear. I say good for him for procting himself... there have been too many dog attack stories for him to do nothing. :thumbsup

nathan_f 01-23-2004 02:52 PM

Ya know what...
Dude comes on your property with a hand gun you got the right to self defense. She could have shot him in self defense and filed suit...
Its up to UPS to screen and hire honorable folk that adhere to there standards as advertised. Yes UPS is at fault for hiring a dip fuck that could hurt someone or even a pet.
The story would be very different if he had accidently droped the gun or accidently pulled a trigger...
A Drawn weapon is VERY serious.

<IMX> 01-23-2004 02:56 PM

That's a pretty foolish situation. He should have had a cell phone and simply called inside.

By the same token, you shouldn't have taken a gun out there with you.

What were you going to do shoot him?

I don't know where you live, but that's NOT the law in GA. She would have been convicted had she shot someone in her yard in GA if they had a gun - especially since that gun wasn't aimed at her and she was INSIDE the house. Remember, she saw him with the gun before she walked outside. She was in NO danger until she put herself into it.

I think you need to reread your GFY law books

Tala 01-23-2004 03:03 PM

To clarify: I grabbed the .38 to protect myself in case he got happy and decided to turn the gun on me when I went out for the package. I had no intention of showing it, or anything else of that nature. Matter of fact, I didn't show it. It stayed in my pocket.

In retrospect, I shouldn't have even gone out there to begin with. But if I hadn't, would he have shot my dogs?

It was a very fucked situation, and I think I did the best that my frantic mind would come up with at the time. Condemn me if you want, that's your choice. But I'm not worried about it, simply because I think I did okay, all things considered. :2 cents:
