50 lost jobs

Richard - Triplexcash 01-23-2004 03:12 PM

Sounds like you handled it well.

If he didn't like the dogs, he could put the truck in reverse and leave.

Don't remember reading you even let the driver know you had a gun. Much rather to have one and not need it, than need it and not have it!

Watch your back for a few days though, if the guy lost his job, he will know why, and obviously isn't playing with a full deck!

Phoenix 01-23-2004 03:29 PM

i just can't get over that this guy drives around with a handgun.

and that you have one as well.

i grew up in northern ontario, in the middle on nowhere,,, i never had to carry a gun...lol

NBDesign 01-23-2004 03:43 PM

damn... yea, I would have made sure he saw the 38 in your jacket... not out... just saw it tucked in. Our postal service carries mace in case of a dog attack...

I hope that prick gets his ass fired. Shit like that pisses me right the fuck off

Hehehe :winkwink:

Actually, the main reason for having a gun with the deer is for when they run into your car (which is constantly) and then they go nuts while they're dying or you want to put them out of their pain.

Or you want some good venison for dinner. :thumbsup

Now, both of my dogs are on their tie-outs. They can't reach the driveway from there, but they can certainly make enough noise to get my attention, which is the idea. No lie, the guy driving the UPS truck is in the truck with a fucking handgun pointed at my dogs!

He sees me and tells me to call off my dogs before he shoots them. So I holler back "wait a minute", go grab my phone and call UPS's local office, give them the truck number and the license plate number and tell them what I see. The woman on the other end of the line is absolutely shocked and asks if I'm sure. I say yes, I'm sure, and she thanks me and gives me a complaint number to verify later if I want to know the outcome of this, but says she bets her own job that this guy is fired for this, because UPS drivers are not to be armed.

I set the phone down and tuck the .38 in my jacket pocket and go back outside and demand my parcel. He gives me the parcel and tells me I shouldn't have dangerous dogs and that next time he has to deal with them, he's going to shoot them.

I go off. I tell him he doesn't have to deal with them, they're tethered quite securely, they're doing their job, and the next time he threatens to shoot someone's tethered up dogs, he'll be lucky if he's not shot himself and to get the fuck out of my driveway. He stares at me a second, and I ask him if he's gonna threaten to shoot me next.

He leaves, I'm pissed, and the sadly funny part is this isn't even my damn package. It belongs next door.

:feels-hot

Here is the "typical" US fundamentals. Ohh..I need a gun for security resaons-- I need dogs for security reasons..I need Alarms for security reasons.

It ends up with deaths of inoccent people because everyone is "afraid"..

:2 cents:

Only in America and 3rd world countries will your ups guy and you stand near eachother both with a gun.

I know understand why all you pro gun guys say you need one...to protect yourself.

Funny how in normal countries your ups guy wont carry a gun hence you dont need to protect yourself with a gun.

Think about.

Not everyone lives in a city. Some people live in rural areas where there are wild boars, dogs, wolves, bears, mountain lions etc and guns can be very necessary for protection not just against other americans with guns. Also there are so many guns in the US that you could never hope to get rid of them all and to outlaw them would put innocent people in danger while criminals aren't going to give up their guns. The old bumper sticker is correct. "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns"

And the same story would have ended differently had Tala's gun fired.

Bull shit. If you fear for your life you can shoot anybody pointing a gun on your property. Let's see, if she had opted to just open the door and shoot the fucker in his head he would have fallen out of the truck, gun in hand. Now how do you think the cops would see that when they showed up? A UPS guy with a gun. Please, how hard is it to prove you fear someone who has a gun out while they are supposed to be delivering packages.

Brandishing a fire arm is assault.

NOTE:

"The defense of property is a possible justification for breaking the law. Courts have generally ruled that "deadly force" is not acceptable in defending property, although it may be acceptable in self-defense"

Self-defense is a possible justification for what would otherwise be breaking the law. Defendants who use this defense argue that they should not be held liable for what is normally a crime, since the actions taken were intended to protect the defendant or others from danger.
Self-defense usually refers to the use of violence to protect oneself; this forms the basis for many of the martial arts. Self-defense is generally understood to have two degrees: reasonable force (or non-lethal force ) and deadly force . Courts generally find that the violence a defendant uses, in self-defense, must in some fashion be comparable to the threat faced, so that deadly force should only be used in situations of "extreme" danger. Many courts have ruled that a " path of retreat " exists, and that self-defense is only acceptable, as a legal defense, when there was insufficient opportunity for the defendant to flee. However, in defense of property, the " castle exception " (see: Edward Coke) argues that one cannot be expected to retreat from one's own home.

All dogs bark at the UPS truck due to the pitch of the tones that it makes. UPS drivers know this and that guy should have just honked his horn or left a sorry we missed you note at the gate.

My dogs go nuts when the UPS truck drives down the street and they are harmless.
