Would it be stupid to have a monthly shave test on gfy?
 

Just thinking out loud here.

Once a month everybody who wants to pulls out his cc buys a trial at site through a linking code made public in a post here and someone makes a screengrab and confirms it with the people who bought a trial.

Ofcourse end of the day the sponsor would get to keep the money and the account will be disabled.

Is this stupid? Does it break any laws or terms?

I honestly dont think its a bad idea. The sponsor will exposed as a honest sponsor, makes a few bucks and we are sure nothing shady is going on. Plus it will scare the shavers because they know they could be hit next.

If you dont trust a sponsor with your money run your own sites :2 cents:

well, 1st off seein how vast GFY is, you dont think the sponsors being tested would be informed and turn the shaver down?

Yes, that would indeed be a problem if they find out the min its posted and are able to simply push a button to stop the shaving. Im not sure its that simple tho. The few times ive seen a shaver in action (screenshots) its for all the affiliates and not just 1 account.

because as that is great for sign ups, it seems the recent "glitches" ( or whatever you want to call it) was about re-bills.

We cant test the whole web ofcourse but this is a start, the pps sponsors who run their own program.

You can always signup under yourself to test the sponsor & then e-mail them to remove your su.

they wont lose anything unless they are shaving, and even if they are you would have to somehow notify them that you are doing this test, so they could set up the account appropriately (no payouts, etc)

If i was running a pps program people would be free to test this anytime! No problem at all, nothing to hide. Ofcourse i wouldnt pay out to that account but i honestly would people invite to test me at any time.

i beleive you can set accounts up differently. if you had a test account, it wouldnt necessarily be the same as the other accounts

Shaving software can be really smart. It can be programmed to not fuck up with tests like this. Its easy to program it in a way that when it sees theres no traffic sent just 1:1 conversions it knows its a possible test. What ive heard from shavers is they react on the amount of traffic that is sent and the conversions it generates.

Got it working now.

Forget the payout and test account.... do this. Get a group of 20 people that are willing to do this each month. Pick a site that you want to test for the month and have one of the people join that sites webmaster program. Then have the other 19 people join that site using the REF code. Report all your findings along with a check for all the revenue that the webmaster account makes to the sponsor then post a full report on GFY.

You could count me in on this....maybe even do it once a week

Good idea, but the reason i would like this directly to happen on gfy is because everybody would be able to see from min one whats going in.
Coming to gfy end of the day results in the usual blah blah, accusations of fake screenshots etc.

I noticed a sponsor that will even refund your money if you buy a membership to test signups. Would be a good idea for more sponsors to follow...

Yes but you cannot expect this with 30 people signing up...it would be a plus but not neccesary imo.

especially with people having cheap trials.... a couple of bucks is worth knowing your not getting ripped off

Well if you posted on GFY you could just ask everyone to click through and only x amount are going to join. I've considered this before and if a sponsor wanted to be a dick and kick me out of the program for testing them when they got free money regardless I'd just let everyone know about that also.

This test would start the second its posted here not giving them a notice before that. I thought you would be smart enough to figure that out.

It wouldn't be just 'near impossible' to keep the tested sponsor a secret, it would be completely impossible.

Imagine trying to find 30 webmasters who are not connected to any sponsor whatsoever in any manner at all. Doesn't know someone who works there, hasn't made friends with them on the boards, who hasn't pissed off anyone in a sponsor's organization on the boards, etc.

Trying to keep a secret between 3 people is bad enough in this industry, trying to keep it between 30 unrelated webmasters is a pipe dream.

It really is a good idea, but the way you want to go about it just won't work.
Think more along the lines of what Charly is proposing with his webmaster group. More anonymous and less chance of tipping off the sponsor while they're being tested.
