Sounds good. Its just damn hard to get this started as a lot of people here are flaky.

Best would be to have a website where people can apply and say if they want to send traffic or a sign up.

Imagine trying to find 30 webmasters who are not connected to any sponsor whatsoever in any manner at all. Doesn't know someone who works there, hasn't made friends with them on the boards, who hasn't pissed off anyone in a sponsor's organization on the boards, etc.

Trying to keep a secret between 3 people is bad enough in this industry, trying to keep it between 30 unrelated webmasters is a pipe dream.

It really is a good idea, but the way you want to go about it just won't work.
Think more along the lines of what Charly is proposing with his webmaster group. More anonymous and less chance of tipping off the sponsor while they're being tested.

Yes, this is my biggest worry as well.

Then again, people who want to work with me on this are people who hate shaving. It would be weird if they know a program owner who shaves and at the same time participate in this project.

Once again DUH.
This test would start the second its posted here not giving them a notice before that. I thought you would be smart enough to figure that out.

If you're going to announce it publically, there's no reason to even bother doing it.
Sponsors can and do set different shaving levels for different affiliates.
The instant they know they're being tested, they go in and tell the shaver to ignore your account and let everything pass through.

Then we indeed would have to it in private...which makes it less reliable imo.

Battus, head over to O*prano and read the thread about CCBill exposing shavers.
Nick, Serge and Vick post comments in that re:shaving that are priceless from many different angles. It'll show you just how complex this could be.

For example, would you be tracking where your traffic (because you do have to send traffic not to have 1:1 conversions) is coming from? If not, you could be getting shaved on a certain country or provider's traffic and not even know it because you're not keeping track.
