Or are consumers scamming themselves? If they took the time to read the terms and conditions of the purchase, they would see exactly what they were being billed for.

Granted it might not be the best business practice in the world, but whos to say!

No, the terms don't state the charges, and they bill you for un-disclosed things. I cancelled within the 30 minute 'free trial' as disclosed and was still billed. Not to mention their site has all sorts of other illegal (against VISA/MC regs) statements and practices. :)

It is fraud, plain and simple. I walked through the entire process just to verify for myself.

the only thing i don't understand is how the credit card companies let it go on for so long...they must know about it?

When you have as much money as the person(s) in question you can, for awhile at least, buy yourself credit card processing using smoke and mirrors. But you're right, it will eventually come home to roost. But by then they will have defrauded consumers out of millions (more than they have already.)

It sucks, and it ruins the business for everyone, adult and non. But then again companies like Enzyte and Girls Gone Wild defraud people using telephone orders as well, so it's not purely porn sites doing it. Penis pills are also a culprit. ;)

The terms of the site would be hard for even an adult webmaster to understand. They are very confusing.

Surfers can't be expected to read terms anyway, and purposely hiding charges in there is low.
