What % of Webmasters Cheat Sponsors?

So much talk about sponsors cheating webmasters, I'd bet there are way more webmasters that try and cheat sponsors and other webmasters.

Your opinion?

Geez, they are so damn blatant about it. What the fuck, talking in a forum about how to steal credit card numbers. I can't believe ISP's don't shut these kinds of forums down instantly. No wonder so much computer crime occurs.

At least we know where to go to stay one step ahead of them! Look at all the CCBill exploiting shit on there. Kids are having a field day with paysites and tons of webmasters haven't even patched theirs yet.

Mutt 11-09-2003 12:27 AM

amazing how somebody doesn't shut that down, look at this thread, they post cc numbers, names, addresses right out in the open - then they start pissing with each other cuz nobody said thanks to the guy who posted them and the cards were all dead now having exceeded the daily spending limit.

Well I'm sure there are many "webmasters" that commit acts of fraud against sponsors and they are the ones that ruin it for the rest of us that send genuine sign ups and not to mention Visa/Mastercard coming down on us for what others do. :BangBang:

I think most of the fraud comes from other countries, Russia, India etc... if I were running an affiliate program, I wouldn't accept affiliates in a lot of countries. There's fraud in the US, but it's not as easy to get away with, as it would be in other countries.

Fraudulent people :ak47:

What percent of sponsors cheat webmasters... that's the question.

Hey, i got a program from a friend. Well, i told him i was learning a little of Visual Basic too. So, he made a bet with me that i couldnt redo, or hack(i guess thats what you could call it) his program. What he wants me to do is kinda take full control over it like it was mine. Well, i was like ok fine, because i thought he was just joking, but know i found out he wasnt.

The reason im paying someone 20-25 dollars to do it is bc the beat was 20 dollars and i will give the person an extra 5 if they can get it done this week.

I know i sound like a "kiddy script" but im not just trying to be
lazy and get someone to do it for me. Im trying to learn VB as i said, but i can't learn what i need to in the amount of time i have. So, Please help me!

PS i will tell the person what the program should do if they want to help. It's not really that hard.

More cheating webmasters than cheating sponsors, certainly. Whose cheating involves the most money? Who knows...

But if a sponsor with $2M a month sales were creaming off say 10%, that's around $100K lost to their affiliates. It takes a lot of the $50 cheaters someone mentioned to beat that.

As long as most of the sponsors are private companies we won't know what they get up to or what they suffer. From experience in other industries I would guess that sponsors lose less through petty crooks than at the hands of people who cheat in a much more organised and harder to detect fashion: for example, hiding a 'reasonable' level of fraud among a high volume of legitimate transactions.

Blowing off a few small webmasters is like stores catching shoplifters: high profile, but not making much of a dent in the overall problem (which in their case is mainly caused by suppliers and staff). And since only a tiny minority are involved in theft or fraud on a serious scale, effective measures to catch them are often impractical and usually more costly than the losses they prevent.

Of course, a few webmasters use these types of sites to rip off programmes - I have caught a couple recently trying it on with my programme -

Being on the ball with this kind of shit meant these thieves were caught long before they were due payment -

That does not give me the right to shave honest webmasters...

Here is a guy who likes to use stolen credit card numbers to steal from sponsors:
