What's your worst traffic violation?

In light of my 19 year old's accident last week and the likelihood they'll hit him for some sort of violation...

what's the worse traffic offense you've been charged with and what was the final outcome (did you plead down, etc)?

lil2rich4u2 10-28-2003 01:01 AM

i was pulled over on shoulder talking with GF in the car ...

cop got behind me and said i was half in the lane, so i pulled completely into the shoulder.

He proceeded to run my tags and license, and wrote me a ticket .. i said "ahh this is BS .."

he was mad that i talked back, so he gave me 7 more tickets.

I got pissed, crumpled them and threw it at him .... he then gave me a littering ticket, so i said "your a fucking asshole" and he locked me up

last time i ever mouth off to a cop :/

the next day when the big shot brought me in his office at the jail, he said to me "if we let you go, give us your word that you wont attack your GF again ..."

i went fucking nuts right there, he held me for another day!

turns out this fucked up cop made up a story that i was abusing my GF or some shit, just so they would hold me.

was a stressful weekend for sure, lol

lil2rich4u2 10-28-2003 01:07 AM

oh i also got a ticket on rt80 west going towards cincinati ... doing 85 in a 50 or some shit ... was expensive as hell :/

anyhow after my few years of being a verbal rebel with the cops, my license suffered BAD ... my insurance was $12k per year for full coverage on my new car!!!!

$12k per year!!

just recently i put the insurance under someone elses name, and payed $900 for year.

sucks that you gotta cheat the system ... but $12k is fucking robbery

JDog 10-28-2003 01:08 AM

I got pulled over going 100 in a 45 zone on streets, but the cop let me go, then I got a ticket going 67 in a 35 zone.

But I've told a cop off, when he told me that I was swerving inbetween lanes recklessly - I told him, I went from the left lane to right lane to make a right hand turn at the corner, with couple second pauses inbetween lane changes, with my blinker on! He's like, well I got the tape to prove it. I'm like "show me the tape", and he's said, "I was just going to give you a warning", he gave me my license and insurance back and walked away from me, the whole time I was saying, I wanna see the video, and he kept telling me to shut up!

So I yelled, FUCK YOU and drove off! :Graucho

He's doing okay. I'm a nervous wreck tho. Trying to get it through his head just how lucky he is.. and that since he's not a minor anymore just how bad it could of been if the accident had hurt someone (ie getting sued big time).

I'm figuring it's likely they'll charge him with reckless driving. I'll hire an attorney and get it plead down, but who knows to what. In WA state, reckless without drugs or alcohol involved is a gross misdimeanor with a max of 1 year in jail and up to $5K in fine. That of course is for major offenders. This is his first traffic problem and hopefully a huge lesson learned. His insurance is going to be 40% more than normal for whatever car he ends up with.

as long as he's ok that's the main thing.... hopefully he learned something

Rich 10-28-2003 01:13 AM

When I was 16, I was drunk out of my face, and driving, and some University cops caught me and some friends egging a bus, among other things. Anyway I saw their lights and tried to book it, ran a red light, a couple stop signs, was going 90 in a 60, and also littered a couple egg cartons out the window. The cop said he could have given me all kinds of tickets, but instead he just gave me one. Apparently it's the worst thing to have on your license, "imprudent driving", but the fine was less than any of my 3 illegal left turn tickets so I didn't give a fuck.

Worst offense I've actually been charged with...was 35 on a 30. I have a clean record and ended up getting deferred disposition (probation) for a year.

Its funny though, every time a cop pulls me over for a serious traffic violation (70 in a 45, 100+ in a 65) they seem to let me off, its always the small ones that seem to get me. Go figure.

aflex 10-28-2003 01:18 AM

"no standing" ticket on broadway in manhattan -> $105
"no/missing document" i gave a NJ Trooper wrong reg. card -> $173
EZ Pass violations -> $56

Well with his next car, he may consider getting an umbrella policy along with his regular car insurance :)

Turboface 10-28-2003 01:28 AM

A few years ago, I was driving home from a local bar. Less than a mile from my place, I was stuck sitting at a red light and there was no one around. I continued to sit there for a while and then said fuck it and made a left turn on a red light. There was only one other car in sight, approaching the intersection. Unfortunately, it was a cop.

I saw clearly that it was a police car, as I was making the turn. He was just pulling up to the light. I figured I was so close to home, that I could be home sleeping before the cop even got turned around.

I stepped on the gas and pulled into the neighborhood that I was living at at the time and killed my headlights, as I sped around a series of quick turns.

I pulled up in front of my place and got out of my Camaro, just as the cop came flying up on me. He jumped out of his car and ran over to me. Asking me why I was running from him. I replied simply, 'I saw you as I ran the red light back there'.

The cop was shining his flashlight in my face and he asked where I lived. I pointed to the house we were standing in front of and said, 'Right there'.

He looked at me and said, 'Consider tonight the luckiest night of your life'. I tried shaking his hand, but he just got in his car and sped off.

tootie 10-28-2003 01:35 AM

I was charged with no proof of insurance when I was pulled over for driving with bright lights on in my friend's sister's car.

She asked me to drive to McDonald's to pick up a Happy Meal for her son because her husband was late from work and there was no food in the house at all. She told me I had to drive with the lights on bright because they didn't work at all on dim. (Yes, they were low-income.)

I showed him my license, then the registration. He asked whose car it was and I told him it was my friend's sister's car. He asked her name and I told him and it matched the registration info. Then he asked for insurance. I gave him the card and he said it was expired! I was SO mad. She didn't tell me her insurance was lapsed or I'd have WALKED the 6 miles to McD's.

Anyway, he gave me a ticket (luckily he was nice and he didn't impound the car!), and I had to get my aunt to drive me to court (over an hour away because I didn't live in the city where the owner of the car lived) and I spent 3 hours waiting for my case to come up for the judge to tell me to get the hell out of his courtroom because I wasn't responsible for making sure someone ELSE had car insurance. *whew!*

So my case was dismissed. I felt pretty lucky because he probably could have said that I should have checked the insurance before I left, but I was only 18 at the time and I guess he thought I didn't know any better. I certainly make sure there is insurance on a vehicle before I drive it now. I learned my lesson even though I didn't have to pay a fine or anything.

That was the only time I've ever been pulled over. Never had an accident when I was driving. Been lucky so far.

My worst violation:
Driving without a license :angel

Punishment:
Nothing... sealed record, didn't even have to appear in court. My dad's best friend was the DA, who I happened to call uncle Danny all my life :1orglaugh

Under normal circumstances, wouldn't have been able to get my license until I was 21 :uhoh

VeriSexy 10-28-2003 03:29 AM

This was my first and hopefully last!!!

140 in a 50 but I had no idea it was a 50 cause it was like a highway and it was dark. Had nothing but trees and was late at night. Speeding ticket was $8XX can't remember it was over a year ago. Was my first ticket ever.

I filed to dispute it and the traffic cop didn't show up. I pleaded not guilty and ended up not paying a :2 cents:

I learned my lesson though, cause the next day there was news a 19 year old girl died from loosing control while speeding and smashed into a pole. She was only going 90.

I knew what I did was stupid plus the whole court thing was scary. I learned my lesson, I never speed anymore. Thank GOD everything was ok and the cop stopped me before I kept going and might have killed someone.

I get a few of them every week....

XxXotic 10-28-2003 05:14 AM

my worst violation would be never having been pulled over while driving.

TaDoW 10-28-2003 05:17 AM

hmm... speeding - 83 in a 55 zone, but that was out near anacortes on an indian reservation, so it was talked down from $250 to $120, and it didn't got on my insurance :Graucho

JFPdude 10-28-2003 07:06 AM

140 in a 40 zone
Illegal Nitros tank in the trunk
No registration
No Insurance
No License
No Inspection
Bald Tires
Reckless Endangerment

all on one ticket.

had to go to court twice ... struck a deal with the DA to show proof the car was destroyed. (fought my lawyer on this big time wasn't till years later that I realized it was best)

That was when I was young and dumb and thought it was cool to put a 454 in a chevy vega. The DA didn't think it was all that cool and told me I was facing 2 years in jail for it.

Was the first time I cried in public watching the local junk man crush that car.

Gramma 10-28-2003 07:39 AM

believe it or not "Drag racing"
1973 - Sunday morning about 9:30 am .. 2 lanes at a stop light
guy next to me with his wife and kids all dressed up on their way to church in their station wagon. I was in a 65 Plymouth Belvedere (that car was HOT) - jacked up in the back - on my way to work (as a waitress) - i looked over at him and he grinned and kinda raced his engine. So I raced mine. The light turned green and we both took off. I may have squealed my tires a little, I was a show-off back then. The next light, 1 block away, was red and we stopped. We both got pulled over 1/2 block away in the grocery store parking lot. This was all on the main street in our little town. There were only 3 stop lights at that time.
He never made it to court - I guess charges were dropped on him.
I went to court and pleaded out to a speeding ticket.
Back then the maximum fine for drag racing was pretty bad.
My "ONLY" ticket was a speeding ticket in all my years driving.
So Far.

I went through plenty of grief with one of my sons' driving though.
Even to the point of him having to take a polygraph on one incident. Luckily - I had a very good rapport with the State's Attorney - (before porn) - and we managed to keep things out of the court system - and this son learned his lesson and is now a stellar member of our community.

It's worth the price you pay if it scares the shit out of them and makes them more responsible (since no one was hurt)

swedguy 10-28-2003 07:45 AM

parking tickets :thumbsup

the AcToR 10-28-2003 07:58 AM

I once was doing 180 km/h under the 40 sign... well I saw the sign, but was doing 230 and could slower only to 180 when was hooked on a police radar... but that was in one of those "retarded countries" so I paid a $2 fine (yes, TWO USA DOLLARS FINE) and wasted 15 minutes, talking with policemen about the car... I actually wanted to test how fast can it be after the total engine restoration and this bastard ruined it all :BangBang:

but that's not the way to drive in the city... I prefer slow motion with heavy bass and dignity look :thumbsup

Phoz 10-28-2003 08:02 AM

130 mph in a 30 mph zone. The car couldn't go any faster.

getting a blowjob and being pulled over by the cops. While first shouting through that megafoon that i had to concentrate on the road. Wasnt te worst but the most embarrasing. Happend on the highway near San Jose.

FookMi 10-28-2003 08:49 AM

worst? hmm... late night, driving sisters car back to her house after work. Made a stop by my home to pick up some beer's I had left over from a few nights ago (only 19 at the time). On my way back to my sisters house in HER car, I thought i saw someone i knew pass by me, looked back to see if they stopped, turned around and just turned...right in front of a blazer. Put my sisters Toyota tercel on top of a street sign and left the blazer on its side in the middle of the street. The pisser was... all the beer that I had on the passenger side door had been bottles, and shattered when the blazer struck the passenger side door. I was trapped in the car and had to break out the driver side window with my sisters marble-ended pool stick. Everyone was ok...minor injuries. Insurance coverd vehicles (both totaled) but sister didnt have some insurance for injured motorists or something. Cops looked all around in the car.. im not sure how they didnt see the beer all over. I went back to the car and was trying to throw glass and dirt into it but it still stank. Guess i got off lucky this time around.

Verdict: Licence suspension (6 months)
Ticket: Careless Driving
1200$ to reinstate licence
A hard lesson learned

Shok 10-28-2003 08:53 AM

110 in a 55 zone.

I got yelled at by the cop for 15 minutes then got a $600 fine.

nofx 10-28-2003 08:54 AM

two 80 in a 55 mph tickets in the same week

cluck 10-28-2003 09:02 AM

I've got 12 points on my license so far. Been suspended for 30 days already once, if I get any more points it's 1 year. After those points I got one careless driving where the cop was actually wrong and I beat it talking to the prosecuter. Then I got a ticket for CDS in a motor vehicle and after I get a trial for that I should have a suspended license for the next 2 years. Last week though I got pulled over for not having an inspection sticker and having the wrong insurance card. Turns out noone in my family had the right insurance card, we were a mess and I was the lucky one who got pulled over.

Samantha_Luvcox 10-28-2003 09:02 AM

Eddie got a speeding ticket 187 in a 45 (Yes 187) driving a an extremely hopped up Mazda RX7. Fun part about the story is that he thought it was a buddy of his that was parked at the end of the stretch in his county sherifs car and was blowing past him to see just how fast the car would hit on the radar, it was a little game they played all the time... But this time it was a different guy... LOL Eddie Hit the brakes as soon as he passed and pulled over to wait for his friend, he was to say the least a little shocked when someone else got out of the cop car! The cop was pretty cool about it, Said he didn't even know what kind of car had passed him, all he saw was a grey blur. He followed Eddie home and let him park the car in the garage, then pulled his drivers license for 3 months and gave hime a 100 dollar ticket. It was not like eddie could say "Oh, I thought you where a friend of mine."

Inattentive driving when I was 15. I ran into a phone poll head-on at about 40 miles per hour and they didn't believe my story that a deer ran out in front of me and I had to swerve to miss it .

I also got an "exhibition of acceleration" ticket. The worst part about that one was my Mom drove by while the cop had me stopped so there was no way I could pretend it never happened.

PK, what kind of car did you end up getting him? I know he wanted a Grand National for a while. PLEASE tell me this wasn't a Grand National?

Brad-Wishing 10-28-2003 09:20 AM

Speeding Relative to Conditions.

I had a jacked up jeep with the whole shabang. Real nice rig. Decided it would be cool to go out in the snow and tear around town while others were in the ditches and such.

Cops thought it would be best I stopped.

Peaches 10-28-2003 11:08 AM

Just speeding tickets for me, but a lot of them.

In GA, if you're under 21 and get a ticket for more than 21 over the speed limit, it's an automatic suspension of your license. My son got one and I got an attorney and pleaded it down, but *I* didn't let him drive for 3 months, made him pay the attorney AND pay what the fine WOULD have been ($300).

He STILL got caught speeding again. The next time, he loses his license if it's before he turns 21 (9 months). And he has to pay the deductible for totalling my truck a few months ago and pay whatever the increase is. Now you know I'm happy he wants to join the AF. :winkwink:

Nancy - you WILD woman, lol! :1orglaugh

Misdemeanor manslaughter in a fuckered up traffic accident. Whole issue was one giant clusterfuck. From the ambulance drivers forgetting to refill their gloves in the bus and having to borrow some from the fire engines, to the helicopter landing in a pool of vaporous gas in the street (thankfully no static dishcharge). Civilians pulling people out of the cars all though nobody was in direct danger until the chopper landed.

Lets see we had.

Chopper landing in pool of gas.
Ambulance has no rubber gloves.
Fire department gets a flat tire.
Police setting up flare in high wind situation, again spreading gas pool.
Civilians pulling people from a car that are in no danger, people have neck injuries.
One car has two children in it, one of which is in a car seat in the front seat facing foward (stupid eh?), and other child in rear seat with no car seat. Child in front seat dies :( This child was being babysat by driver, was just placed with guardians 1 day before.

I was rear ended at a dangerous highway intersection (no lights) while in the turn lane. Got pushed into on coming traffic. Was driving a solid steal car, same model car collided with me head on doing 65-70 or so (no skid marks so cant tell). Car impacted on my right front corner center with the logo on their car. My passenger hit his head hard on the piece of metal that seperates the wind shield and the passenger door, got amnesia.

Well the person who rear ended me fled scene. Witnesses all saw different things, ect. My passenger could not remember anything from 2 days before until 8 hours afterwards. Guardian of child that died had a lawsuit going that same day.

Someone had to get fucked, finger got pointed at me. I pled it down to failure to yield the right of way. Insurance covered it all including the suit ect. Cost of that accident made insurance company force my parents to remove me from their policy and both of them and myself had to sign papers saying I would never drive any vehicle insured by that company again.

It was a very, very depressing time and incident.
