Penrod 09-15-2003 01:21 PM

That was fucking stupid.

Stallion 09-15-2003 01:23 PM

Some airports land two planes at a time. They have runways setup directly next to each other for this purpose.

How do you know that this wasn't the case?

Was the video edited?

Wow, your friend was able to get that close up to two airplanes over Miami?

Amazing, he sat on his flying carpet and saw it all!

Also isnt that an old video from back in 99 when American first got the 777 and they flew their planes in formation for publicity shots?

voodooman 09-15-2003 01:38 PM

Thats really quite funny.

They are level with each other, so whichever plane was
behind the other one would be in clear view of the forward
aircraft and unless the contols were fucked up, very capable of turning the aricraft to keep from colliding.

Unless the pilot was drunk or stoned of course.

You're so overdramatic sometimes.

Shok 09-15-2003 01:39 PM

no way Kimmy, American retired their 727's, if there are AA 727's flying around then its another carrier that hasnt repainted after picking up the retired planes.

Must have been the first year I went down there, I distinctly remember going to Curacao on a 727.

They look really close to me. I would not want to be flying that close. I think they almost crashed. It would have been a catastrophe...

Dax 09-15-2003 02:37 PM

What da hell is that?

Over MIA, first of all I would have heard it and then.. their landing gear was not deployed...

Fake...

the Blue Angels fly closer than that all the time

xdcdave 09-15-2003 03:00 PM

has nobody realized that this is a video of a TV set?

Not to mention, good observation Dax, no landing gear down.. That was stunt flying.. SoBe, find new friends and stop being so gullable.

San Fran is like this - They land two planes at a time. Scared the crap out of me the first time landing.

They were so close they almost crashed. IT is a TV becuase my friend brought his camera over and hooked it up then I taped it with my little cybershot mpg/jpg still camera. The landing gear is not down becuase they were pretty high up. They almost crashed I tell you. We sure are lucky they did not.

broke 09-15-2003 03:06 PM

I hate the phrase near miss.

A near miss is a fucking collision.

Carry on.

Was he in another 727 next to those 2? how was he getting shots right next to them at 5 or 10k feet up?

Damn it SoBe.. accept it! Your friend duped you!

RedBumper 09-15-2003 03:15 PM

This certainly isn't a "near miss". It is pretty clear to me that none of the two planes have a TCAS warning (traffic collision alert system) at this time of the flight. How do i know this? Simple, the pilots aren't acting to a TCAS warning, else the TCAS would have instructed the pilots to take action (TCAS from one plane would instruct the pilot to go right or up and TCAS on the other one would instruct the pilot to go left or down) wich it clearly didn't, the planes kept flying level. This is what 4 years of pilot school teaches me :-)
This is just a lame spam attempt.
By the looks of the flaps of the aircrafts (although i can't see it very clear) they aren't attempting to land so my guess it's either an airshow, take-off on two runways or a very good edited video :2 cents:

Edited: note that in take-off or landing configuration the TCAS wouldn't submit a warning.

Spam attempt. How rude.

plus I will say it again, there is no more AA 727's

this post is BS

dirtyone 09-15-2003 03:31 PM

Near plane is either a Boeing 757 or 767 and the far plane is a Boeing 727... Most likely just after take off from a paralell runway judging by the distance from the camera to the planes. This would explain the lack of landing grear and the fact that they are so close together.

The 757/767 is accelerating past the 727 as would happen when a more powerful aircraft takes off beside a less powerfull one.

:2 cents:

Shok 09-15-2003 03:34 PM

the near plane is a 777, the side wedge tailcone gives it away.
the far plane is a 727.

Neither plane has its flaps down which means they are just about or are at cruise.

This is a clip from the formation photo shoot when they got the 777 deliveries.

If it is a take-off then they must above 500 feet - flaps are fully retracted on the 767 and the distance between the two would be atleast 1000 feet. This would be my best guess also but i still have one question if it is a take-off.
Why not put a 767 abnd 727 on the same runway with the lead for the 767? Much safer and not that "spectacular"
But hey........ time is money :Graucho

I don' tknow how you guys do it upthere but flaps retract or at before 500 feet. No?

If those planes were truely near a major airport, which they are not, they would have their flaps down for slower manuevering speeds.

Your right about the 777 which probably means you are right about the formation flight.

Right, at or beneith 500 feet :-) Once above 500 feet you go from take-off power (usually 96%) to climb power (around 85%). When going from take-off to climb thrust you set power and set flaps that's the normal procedure. I know that some (but VERY few) airports ask for another procedure because they are a) at a very populated area with high buildings b) very busy c) they put a slow jet infront of you with the same path. But this happens very often in Europe. Could be that upthere it's a more used procedure.

Edited: Anyway, your probably right about the formation flight. Ain't it beautifull?
