Johnny Depp: U.S. is like a stupid puppy
Wednesday, September 3, 2003 Posted: 7:27 AM EDT (1127 GMT)

BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- Hollywood star Johnny Depp said on Wednesday the United States was a stupid, aggressive puppy and he would not live there until the political climate changed.

The 40-year-old actor, who stars in the "Pirates of the Caribbean," told the German news magazine Stern he was happier staying in the south of France with his wife, the French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, and their two children.

"America is dumb, it's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," he said.

"My daughter is four, my boy is one. I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out," said the star of the off-beat films "Edward Scissorhands" and "Dead Man."

Depp slammed George W. Bush's administration for its criticism of French opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

"I was ecstatic they re-named 'French Fries' as 'Freedom Fries'. Grown men and women in positions of power in the U.S. government showing themselves as idiots," he told Stern.

Maybe Woody Allen should do a remake of the 'The Ugly American' starring Johnny Depp, set in France.

He plays pretend characters for a living? This makes him an important world figure in the geopolitical forum and newsworthy?

If anyone in the public's eye says something like this, it's newsworthy, becuase he has millions of fans who listen to him (whether they agree or not).

Me too. You know, the government is fine with you badmouthing them. The people you need to worry about are the citizens.

Yeah fuck him. How dare him express his first amendment right. But I guess if he was out there spouting off about putting a machine gun in every house he would be okay in your book, you anti-constitutional prick.

So it's not okay for him to express his opinion?

hy·poc·ri·sy ( P )
n. pl. hy·poc·ri·sies

1. The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness.
2. An act or instance of such falseness.

NBDesign 09-03-2003 08:52 AM

I would like to quote a lyeric from tool that fits the American public....

Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow...

pretty much sums it up right there...

Not everyone, but the majority of people in general believe everything they hear and see in the media, the media which only covers half truths, the story they are allowed to tell.

Our government manipulates it's public to believe what they want you to believe no matter if it is the truth or not, or a misdirection to take the attention away from the truth.

This is not a US problem.. it is a problem with government world wide... it just seems that it's only the US that is stupid because our wonderful leaders are loudmouth bastards that need the attention.

Again, for a govenment that has such morals and push them on their people.... they sure do like to fuck their public right up the ass.
:2 cents:

D-Money 09-03-2003 08:57 AM

It's ok for him to express his opinion. I like his movies and will continue to watch them.

However, I think he's a dumb ass. I don't get how he can get into politics and slam the US, then move to France of all places. I remember what France was saying and doing when we went to war with Iraq. They were in denial about Saddam. Not all French people, just their leader. So he's critical on Bush then moves to France where their leaders political beliefs are perfect?

He still has a right to his beliefs and the right to express them. He just sounds like a dumb ass and I have a right to say that.

Turns out the French (and the rest of the world for that matter) was right about Iraq.

Hey D$, looking at the situation we are in now. . the WMD, the likely Haliburton conspiricy, N. Korea & their nukes, etc. . .do you think it was the right move to invade iraq? We showed our approval for a pre-emptive war based on the potential threat of terrorism (at least, that's how bush justified it.)? What if every country had such policies . . .Like India, or Isreal? Just wondering . . .

(Nice radio show by the way)

crockett 09-03-2003 09:21 AM

yea know, I'm not quite sure what to think of that... I somewhat agree with some of what he is saying.. about Bush needing out and the stupid shit with french fries and so on... but why when he is in the public eye, why dose he bash the US insted of using his public trust to help bring about change..

I guess the way I look at it, is fuck him... if he isn't willing to work to support this country then fuck it he can stay in France. If he isn't willing to help make a change, then he dosn't deserve to live here.

There is no diffrence in the way the US, France and Russia went about Iraq.. The US had things to gain by attacking Iraq.. while France and Russia had things to lose by attacking Iraq.. So in the end each country acted in the same respect, for it's own intrest. It's too bad the intrests were all about money from each country and not about the people living in Iraq.

He is colorful and he has changed but he is such a free spirit but he will never conform....good for him he wants to protect his kids but Depp helped add to all the things he despises.

What was odd was after he filmed that pirate movie he went on various talk shows, and he still talked like the pirate. Went back and watched some old arvhives of him on VH1 and he did not used to talk like that....

hundreads of millions? in the States? wow 2/3 or even the entire country is a patriotic Johnny Depp fan... that CANT accept him saying that america is dumb for letting a president and party manipulate them like they do?! (which is a sentiment shared by most democrats)... Btw, in England... where blind patriotism is nearly inexistant... only 1/4 of British still have faith in Blair and believe he didnt mislead the population with Iraq...

I think thats what Depp what referring to.. blind patriotism in america.. sponsored by the government and their fanatic republican friends...

As for him saying that Chirac is the man... I'll have to disagree with that... Chirac is an asshole...

Nothing feeble about it. You're bashing someone for stating their opinion. What makes your opinion any more valuable than his your highness? Just because someone has an opinion that conflicts with yours doesn't make it wrong.

hottoddy 09-03-2003 09:50 AM

It's not his fault. Being an actor and living in France must be like going to college. He's constantly surrounded by socialist, Ivory Tower thoughts.

Whenever the Democrats are in office, the Republicans cry that the current US administration is the worst ever.

With the whole of history on my side I'll say it's hard to take any such comments seriously. Need I remind anyone that Republicans (foolishly IMHO) went so far as to impeach Clinton?
