Johnny Depp is probaly the most under rated actor out there and hit the nail right on the head. If I had the choice I'd live elsewhere too. Let's see we have the worst educational system of all the industrialized nation and NO health care. hmmm we really rule don't we! Go George Bush we missed about 10% of the world population that doesn't hate us can we please have four more years of you, Asshahahahaha and your corporate conglomerations

I will give Depp props for actually doing what he says.... many of the hollywood elite said they were going to move out of the country is Bush was elected... I do not think many have lived up to their threats.

Yeah, except he moved to France in 1998 - during the Clinton Administration. His move had nothing to do with politics.

I don't understand......why don't you have a choice? Just contact several embassies and start the process. If I thought I would be better off somewhere else I would do something about it. I personally have lived more than hafl my life outside the US and I would not want to leave again.....but hey, if you think that you are so much better off elsewhere....make it happen!

Try http://travel.state.gov/

I like that fact that JD has left the country....at least he is doing what he is saying. There are a lot of actors that promised they would leave and I'm still waiting.....

Anyway, of course I saw Pirates. Fucking fantastic movie. This year/summer has yielded some bad ass movies. Going to be getting a shitload of DVDs for Christmas. Watched Two Towers again last night, can't wait for Return of the King! The bonus footage on TT is great.

Johnny Depp: U.S. is like a stupid puppy
Wednesday, September 3, 2003 Posted: 7:27 AM EDT (1127 GMT)

BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- Hollywood star Johnny Depp said on Wednesday the United States was a stupid, aggressive puppy and he would not live there until the political climate changed.

The 40-year-old actor, who stars in the "Pirates of the Caribbean," told the German news magazine Stern he was happier staying in the south of France with his wife, the French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, and their two children.

"America is dumb, it's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," he said.

"My daughter is four, my boy is one. I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out," said the star of the off-beat films "Edward Scissorhands" and "Dead Man."

Depp slammed George W. Bush's administration for its criticism of French opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

"I was ecstatic they re-named 'French Fries' as 'Freedom Fries'. Grown men and women in positions of power in the U.S. government showing themselves as idiots," he told Stern.

I think vanessa paradis is actually canadian but I<m not sure . she made career in france fo sho:P

What attitude? I didn't say anything like what you just said nor did I imply that. I said I don't take seriously the claims of the opposition party in each and every election cycle that the current administration is the worst in history. THAT is political.

Sure, some of the time someone's opinions are in line with a particular ideology. Great. Just as often, someone's opinions follow a party line. Why is that Republicans complained loudly about Clinton's bombing Iraq in 1998 and why was it Democrats that complained in 2003? What changed? This kind of thing happens all the time. Republicans were being partisan in 1998 and Democrats in 2003. This is completely normal. Why should we expect differently?

The words of the last two presidents regarding Iraq and Saddam are nearly indistingushable. For example, "The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow."

It makes absolutely no sense for a Democrat to say things like this is the worst administration in history and Bush lied about Iraqi WMD when the Democratic president prior to him said and believed the same thing. Yeah, I'd say that's partisan.

If you're pointing to the World Wars as some sort of "domino theory" of course one would have to ignore the fact that there have been hundreds of post World War II conflicts and yet no more world wars. The idea that "we might end up in another world war" is really no more likely than "Saddam might end up another Hitler".

Exactly Maru we could have financed National health coverage with the money we used to bomb Iraq. But then George Bush's friends wouldn't have gotten the contracts to rebuild all the shit we blew up.

But, Aleister, any politician pledging for National health coverage would be dubbed a leftist liberal.

Lyndon B Johnson wanted "the great society", a USA without poverty. Today, he is the most hated of American presidents, partly because of the Vietnam quagmire, but also because he actually wanted to eradicate poverty in the most prosperous country on earth.

"Most hated of American presidents"? Where do you get that from? I doubt if you conducted a poll many Americans would choose LBJ as "America's most hated president". I am guessing that more would probably choose Nixon, for example. At least half of Americans think "The Great Society" was a great idea. Those people are called Democrats.

Vietnam certainly tarnished LBJ's presidency.

uh, who said that Clinton? As far as I know, "respond today" doesnt mean invade them today... And as far as I know, nearly all nations agreed that Saddam represented a possible threat... thats why inspectors returned.... As for the WMD statement... well maybe Clinton should have used the term "with possibly" ... Clinton is not perfect..

For the world war exemple... my point was that it can happen again... dont use history as proof that everything will be alright... THe world is continualy evolving...

Yeah, maybe he should have qualified that but of course he didn't because he believed Saddam had them - at least if one took him at his word - and I did. You are displaying exactly the kind of partisanship that I just wrote about. You're trying to give Clinton credit for believing something in opposition to his numerous statements to the contrary. There are at least dozens of times where Clinton alluded to Saddam's WMD's. That is of course exactly what I was pointing out. Both administrations thought Saddam had WMD's. Both administrations publicly said so.

If Clinton didn't believe Saddam has WMD's, George Bush was fighting a war only of liberation. I mean, come on. Let's be consistent in our criticism.

As far as "history". Again you are not reading what I am saying. I never said history is proof that a world war will never happen. In fact, it would surprise if there weren't some day. I never said anything even remotely like your interpretation.

What I said is"with the whole of history on my side I'll say it's hard to take any such comments seriously". Translation: "take any such comments seriously" refers to the comments directly above it in the post.

What that means is that history shows every administration is considered "the worst" by quite a whole lot of people. I didn't take the Republicans seriously who thought it of Clinton. I don't take the Democrats seriously who thought it of Bush. Why? Because both will be complaining just as vehemently about the next set of Democratic and Republican presidents. It has little to do with reality and everything to do with politics. Such politics have been typical since the founding of the Republic.

A side note. Many lessons can be drawn from history. One might be that any small event can turn into a large conflict. Another might be that dealing with ambitious totalitarian leasers is best done early. Usually people pick and choose in order to tell a story that correlates with their beliefs of what action should or should not be taken.
