Cookie sales vs. instant sales.
Another thread brought up programs like Evidence Eliminator and how the program is designed to erase cookies on the users computer. Someone went on to question whether or not this would have an impact on sales.
As affiliates, how many of your sales are directly from cookies? I know that I get a few "bookmark" sales, not quite sure if that's the same as a cookie sale. Any thoughts? |
Doesn't Evidence Eliminator track affiliate sales with cookies? :1orglaugh

Yes it would, I estimate up to 25%. Also depends how you do the sales funnel. Obviously if it's just a redirect, without a cookie, the ccbill code for example will not credit your sale. That's why many programs I've seen are starting to use server-side cookies.

I think the real issue here is which sponsors rely only on cookies, and which ones use cookie and variable tracking?
If a surfer clicks on whatever.com?id=myid and it bookmarks that actual addy, then you get credit if he signs up a month later no matter what spyware removal tools he used. But if he clicks on a link pointing to whatever.com?id=myid, and the sponsor redirects to whatever.com and then begins tracking via cookies... that means when bookmarked, it shows up as whatever.com WITHOUT the tracking id. This is of course a problem if a) the cookie was set to expire or b) the cookie got deleted in one of the many increasing ways. |
And thats why its best to use sponsors with server side includes or whatever, as long as they keep the affiliate id in the url throughout the tour!

unless of the course the surfer is a dick... like i used to be ...and back out any fancy code .... like things after ? marks ...

That's about the deal there :) Webmasters selling cookie killers and paysites from the same page , hmmm. I had a sponsor one time that was actually exiting pay site traffic to one ;) Get the sale while they're there, or forget it.. AST 121760557 |
In most cases bookmark traffic will still be credited to you unless you use one of the sponsors which drops a cookie on the surfers pc, and then redirects to a 'clean' tour page. I have promoted evidence eraser for some time now, and haven't noticed any difference in sales. :)
