Is there anyone here with experience installing a new cdrom in a computer?

I desperately need some help with this bitch. I installed all the hardware correctly, yet whenever I turn the computer on, it is'nt reading my cdrom at all.

Also, my internet connection keeps shutting off and connecting again....:helpme

Anyone with ICQ and a desire to help me out? 163385497

Thanks

You will need a hammer and some antifreeze....

I don't have time for an ICQ walkthrough right now, but the first thing you should so is make sure you have the cable on the right way. Pin 1 (look for the red stripe) should be near the power input on the drive. After that, make sure that your BIOS knows its there. If you have your "2nd IDE device" or whatever set to "None", the computer won't know it's there.

In my experience, a good, solid, smack on the top or side of the computer does wonders.

Got it figured out, it was a Slave/Master problem, BIOS was straight, just forgot to switch it over.

Now I gotta tackle this driver problem.

Anyone know how to use downloaded drivers? Where they go and shit? My riptide audio file said there were'nt any drivers installed and asked for the install disk, but I have none, so I d/l'ed some, and I don't know what to do with em, lol.

i have windows xp and it has one folder under the "my computer" just for drivers.. you open the folder and it contains audio, video ,modem and network folders...could it perhaps go in one of those folders?

titmowse 06-05-2003 10:06 PM

Yeah you can get pretty good deals on used Mac's. I picked up a G3 that I use for music. Im runnin Logic Audio Gold and have to say the Mac is rock solid, never have a problem

Hybrid, did the driver you downloaded come with a .exe? Like install.exe? In that case just doubleclick on it. If there isn't one, there should be one called "install.inf" or "whatever.inf"
Rightclick, then click on "install", and reboot.
