Like anything else, I think some people have the knack for internet marketing and some don't. To those that do, making decent money is adult seems so easy that they're unable to understand why others can't do the same.

Becuase they ARE stupid. You could give them a join the dots guide to how to make bank in thiz biz and they still wouldn't figure it out.

I've had this argument over and over here. I can't believe the people that don't believe it's even possible to make as much as I do which is nothing in comparison to what you can make in porn.

I can't understand why more newbies don't build paysites or premium AVS and promote them via paid TGP listings or other purchased traffic.

Alot of people would say that strategy is suicidal, and not just for newbies, but I've been doing it since day one.

My first year in the biz I broke 6 figures while working 2 - 3 hours a day on pushing traffic to one pathetic regular AVS site that I'd built mostly as a means to help me learn Fireworks.

And believe me, I'm no tour building or marketing genius.

The site is still up, still in its original form, and it still makes 30k even though I haven't really worked at promoting it in over a year.

I'm just not all that interested in what other people are making or not making. Never was really. It's the cheques that hit my own mailbox that I am most concerned with, and I've been happy with them for the past 4 years.

I showed AMP the tour on the site I'm talking about once, and I'm surprised he didn't laugh himself into a coma over it.

The key is really simple.....there are not too many people that
understand that it takes money to make money. They want a
freehost, free content, free scripts, free designs, free traffic and
use that to haunt for millions of dollars.

Allthough it's quite possible to make some cash with nothing but
even then people don't reinvest some of that hard earned cash.
They rather use it to get a loan on a rice racer or knockoff watch
and show friends what a pimp they are.

Oh well I hope people just keep doing that......makes it easier
for the other few.

What I think is funny is all the talk about how bad things have gotten since '96.

Even if you were starting out today, this has got to be the only legal business where with some acumen, work ethic, and a few thousand dollars in startup cash, you can realistically expect to make enough money to retire in less than a decade.. alot less than a decade.

I can give you an answer out of my own experience. Most people that start into adult biz think they are gonna make piles of the green from the moment they start and don't have to work for it. I used to be one of those people ages ago :)
But i quickly changed my attitude...... worked hard, had alot of patience and now i'm making some good green :glugglug

The main problem with noobs seem to be they want everything for free indeed. Ask any noob out there who wants to start in adult the question "do you wana drop 1 grand to start your site?". No, they say... And they work months and months just to come to the conclusion that they'd better dropped that 1 grand from the beginning!

People think it's easy money, not much work. They just come here, with no business plan, no nothing and start to copy others they think make money.

Another problem even some of the vets have is the "that shit won't work" attitude about anything and everything they don't do. I'm the same way, the site that made me all my money in the beginning looks like complete shit and can be made in 2 minutes in notepad.

Theres no way someone could work that much and make so little or nothing.

I think when they say "work" they mean they sit on the computer, get started with work, then fuck around on the messageboards and icq and before they know it it's time for bed. If you took the amount of work they did and the work they actually PRODUCED it'd probably be a small amount.

heh, well... i haven't made dick. and its because of one thing, motivation. when it comes to doing something i'm unsure of, and i have doubts about (basically everything cause i've never actually done it before) then i'll fuck around with it, notice it'll take hard work for quite awhile and say fuck it.

but, i have an excuse for that cause i'm primarily a designer and i'm usually always workin on something. and i have no money i can use to actually start up my own shit (yet).

however.. i still believe there are those out there who have a natural ability when it comes to shit like makin money on the net. i know i have that ability, but i extinguished most of it on learning to become a successful mainstream / flash designer. but, soon enough i'll start up my own shit.

for those out there who whine because its "hard" or whatever, just lack skill, and determination.

IMHO its the surfer mentality.

Most of us were porn surfers before we got into the biz, that's how we found out about it, and the new webmaster needs to learn to stop thinking like a surfer and start thinking like a webmaster.

And they can come to GFY and find an unlimited number of like minded people that they can talk to about why its someone else's fault that they're not making money.

When I started GFY wasn't around, I cut my teeth on Voltar's board, one of the most important things I learned there is that the surfer is not your friend, the surfer is cattle, to be herded to where you see fit.
