Example: Website Usability. You either understand it as a science, or you understand it intuitively, but you understand it. You know why one link is better then another, you know how to get surfers to click on what you want them to click on. You AB test your marketing, at least in some form. Those that can't make any money don't even understand what I'm writing about.

Look genius, 99.999% of the surfers that get jerked around have no fucking clue what site jerked them around, was it an exit console from the site they just left, or an entrance console from the link they just clicked?

I know a guy that I was talking to about one of my sites when I first started in this business. He asked what the name of the site was, I told him, it was "blah.com"
The next day he told me he couldn't find my site, he said "I went to yahoo and typed in blah.com and they said it didn't exist"
This is a lot more typical than you think.
You give the surfers way too much credit, you assume they know as much as you do.
There's no consumer reports for porn sites, its an impulse purchase, people don't shop around and they don't take notes of which site has consoles and which ones don't.

a lot of people i know won't surf porn sites because its complete crap for a variety of reasons. you're losing some of your herd and you don't even realize it.

The feeling that it's easy to make money online I think comes with having *made* money online, faced some obstacles and overcome them. Then you start to believe..

Also once you've made some money, and raised some capital you can afford to try things, throw a few bucks at project A,B,C if it doesn't come off then who cares the risk:reward was right.

When I was starting out I could barely afford to buy a domain, granted they were $140 US for two years, but I was a student and didn't have ANY money.

I still don't know *lots* of ways to make money, but when I find things that work I duplicate it to death, reinvest etc.

Then look for some new ideas..

Instead of bouncing around from one project to the next, invest in one, learn everything you can, spend some cash, and make your bank.

Gotta spend some to make some.

I doubt this biz is about "selling sex" - (apart from having some decent material to work with). If it was, I've been selling sex since the early 70's - but it might as well be oysters.

Tis more about knowing what is profitable, - the niche, - having an ability to auto gererate as much as possible to a reasonable standard and some experience in "client capturing", - ie, "using" search engines blah.

It does help if you have some "geekability" - sure cuts out a load of time-consuming routines!:glugglug
