Who Is On Atkins???

I've lost 13 lbs in 2.5 weeks :Graucho

Feeling good, sleeping good, more energy - jeans are loose - this is very nice!

No bread, no taters and no pasta - that's about to kill me...but I'm hang'n!

Jakke PNG 05-09-2003 01:22 PM

I'm not. I can't. Beer is forbidden

Snake Doctor 05-09-2003 01:24 PM

Congrats, 13lbs is a good bit, probably a full pants size.

I lost a lot of weight (about 40lbs) on an atkins type diet a couple years ago. Of course I put most of it back on by being lazy since then.

I started up again about 2 weeks ago (I'm single again and back on the market so I need to shape up) and I've dropped about 8lbs.
I was hoping for more than that but I've been hitting the gym really hard too, so I see a bigger difference in the mirror than on the scale, and maybe I put a pound or two of muscle on?

Perseus 05-09-2003 01:25 PM

If your on Atkins you better have green vegetables, or least once a week a shot of wheat grass, [Equivalent to 2lbs of green vegetables or you'll mess up your digestive system.

Hey there's that new michelob beer that only has 2.6 carbs.
If you didn't eat any other carbs all day you could kill a 6 pack of that at night and still be under the limit. :thumbsup

Jakke PNG 05-09-2003 01:26 PM

I have a fair bit of muscle I'm trying to get rid of. Bigger IS better, lard is good.

CraigA 05-09-2003 01:26 PM

A couple of us here at TCG are on it. Eight pounds in two weeks for me and really not craving anything. The pants are definitely looser. Another 10-12 pounds and I'm golden.:winkwink:

Actually, I'm on a "modified" Atkins diet. I eat a little more carbs then they suggest and a little less fat. Plenty of protein though - it all seems to be good -

For those of you on this diet and having success with it I have a question or two. I want to compare notes.

Do you notice the weight loss comes in spurts? I'll keep the same weight or even gain a pound over the course of 3 or 4 days, and then one day I'll step on the scale and 3 or 4lbs are gone and they stay gone.
Works out to like a pound every other day but its just funny because I start to get discouraged and then drop a few lbs all at once.

Are you limiting your food intake at all? Or are you eating as much as you want as long as you don't go over the carb count?

I notice I don't lose any weight or even gain some weight when I eat the atkins bars or carbolite stuff. Even though the "net carbs" on those is like 2. Is this just me or do you experience similar results with those. (sometimes the sweet tooth just has to be fed)

hottoddy 05-09-2003 01:38 PM

I lost 30 lbs in 6 weeks a few years ago on Atkins. The first week or so, it's mainly water weight (carby foods hold a lot of water in your system).

The downside is the weight eventually comes back when you reintroduce carbs - you can't stay away from them forever. Also, my cholesterol and BP went way up, despite the weight loss. Yes, I was eating a ton of salads, low-sugar veggies and limiting red meat intake.

It probably effects people differently, but the negatives outweigh the positives for me. Now, I just watch the super-starchy carbs, limit my caloric intake and exercise.

Yea... I weigh in every morning - and just about every morning I've seen "some" lose. On occasion I've not seen a lose for a few days and then *bam* 1 lb. will dissappear. Also, I try not to eat anything after 8PM so that my body doesn't spent the night trying to digest my food but instead burns some of the fat that I'm trying to lose. Have you used those Ketosis strips? I check it every morning and show positive for fat burning. You can pick those up at the local pharmacy or grocery store in the diet area.

Although I bring cookies and cakes to all the crew at Oliver Klozov Studios, I have not indulged once myself. Talk about have self control??? Walking thru the lunchroom and seeing people eat cookies and cakes that you brought and you just keep on walking - hahaahahaha

I'm actually doing my own little experimental version of the Zone Diet. I have to have carbs, but mainly in the A.M. I've lost about 7 lbs so far. I haven't been exercising regularly but I walk a lot! I will be incorporating Pilates into my workout Saturday morning, and walking more hills. Here's a sample of what I eat. I'm 5'5, 135 lbs, wanting to lose 15lbs, but have already shed 7.

Breakfast
Flaxseed/Hi Fiber Cereal (2 cups)
1 cup Soymilk

Snack
half piece of multi grain bread
peanut butter

lunch
small salad (with beans, a little cheese, chickpeas/mushrooms)
yogurt or a piece of fruit

Snack
Protein Drink (Designer Whey)

Evening
sandwich with soy turkey
alfalfa sprouts

all day water
multi vitamin
Udo's oil (2 Tablespoons a day)

Miller lite is a good low carb beer also...

I'm on the atkins and I am starving even though I eat 4 double cheesburgers w/out the bread for lunch!

Oh, well.......

Perseus 05-09-2003 01:43 PM

Good Job!! It does really work well, I'm glad your doing it right {eating salads.}. Are you working out? taking supplements?

I find EAS supplements to be the best. Anything with alot of Glutamine. {hopefully I spelled that right } to recover alot quicker

Yea - I've eaten a few double cheeseburgers without bread as well - kinda strange taking the bread off huh? I'll eat one of those and a small salad - fills me up nicely!

I've been on it for a week and dropped about 5 lbs. It would probably help to hit the gym at the same time though.

Just 20 more to go. :b

This happens to a lot of people. Try to stay away from these products that are capitalizing on Atkins. Most often, they use creative techniques to advertise a low carb count (eg, "malitol has a negligible effect on blood sugar levels). These ingredients do effect some people, and can quickly sabotage the diet.

When in doubt, use the calorie formula to find the "hidden" carbs: (9 X Fats) + (4 X Carbs) + (4 X Protein) = Total Calories. If you come up short on calories with a "low carb" product, there are probably hidden carbs and creative labeling involved.
:2 cents:

EAS products are very good, I take Betalean, I had to steer clear of Hydroxycut, my body became dependent on it, which was bad. Betalean does have ephedra in it, but come in two forms one without also. I just drink lots of water and haven't gotten bitchy or overheated.

It's so fugg'n easy to pack on the pounds when you sit at a computer all day and not get the proper exercise. I probably spend more time behind the keyboard then I do behind the camera - look'n to make some changes with that though in the near future :thumbsup

When I reach my target weight, I will slowly start converting to a more "Zone" like diet with the proper percentage of carbs, protein and fat. I've been eating way too many carbs for way too long and wanting to take a somewhat drastic measure. Actually, I'm not "that" fat - just about 20lbs heavier then I want to be. I'm over halfway to my target weight. Ahhhh- just in time for summer :winkwink:

Loads of energy. Balanced insulin levels. Never hungry cause I eat 3 meals and two snacks. Lots easier for me to follow than Atkins or some of the others.

Caught wind of another modified Atkins diet called the South Beach Diet. Haven't messed with it cause Zone is working for me.

That's good to hear, PK. I also eat the same way and don't eat after 6 p.m. I found it amazing that I wasn't even hungry after 6 p.m. since eating this way. I never skip breakfast either.

Trolleater 05-09-2003 02:00 PM

Feel better cause you're not taking in shit carbs, they give you a nice initial natural-high...but then quickly bring you down afterwards and just make you feel worn out.

Throw in some workout with that and you'll feel even better.

For most of my adult life, I've skipped breakfast.. seldom eaten lunch and then porked out for dinner cause I was starving. Not good for the system at all.

My day sometimes gets stretched out so I would have a hard time not eating after 6. Sometimes I don't do breakfast untill 11 am and then slide my meal times from there.

I don't need to live to other people's expectations. I don't give a fuck if they think I'm obese. I get laid, I get money, I'm healthy and I have no problems whatso ever. Why should I have pressure about my size? Occasionally it's relatively disturbing because I haven't seen my cock in like 5 years.

Yeah I did pick up some of those ketosis strips the last time I was at the grocery.

I'm kind of leery of them though because every time I've used them they've turned to the right color that says I'm burning fat.
I almost want to eat some cookies before bed just to see if they don't turn color the next morning...LOL

Make sure the expiration date hasn't passed on those strips. I know the ones I have work - a few times I've checked and gotten less color then other mornings. When I go to bed hungry - I wake up and the strips is bright purple :Graucho which is a good sign. I always check mine as soon as I wake up in the morn - before eating or drinking anything -

A little tip that may help you to lose more weigh and that is stop eating after 5pm.
Its possible to lose 10lb a week by just doing that. It isnt easy but if you can stick to this for just one week you will see amazing results.
Good luck

On atkins or another version and missing Pasta? How about Brownies? Or even Cookies?

here is a site I found that rocks!!!
http://www.lowcarboutlet.com

Also if you are looking for a great meal replacement the AdvantEdge Carb Control Ready to Drink, drinks are great. The bars are not too shabby either. The Atkins Advantage bars are quality. Had a Brownie Almond Fudge one for a snack today. Mighty good I might say.

Anyone who has seen serious cholestorol problems the trick there is to cut back on the red meat and fatty foods. Lay off the cheese. Start eating 5 egg omlettes in the morning. 1 full egg and 4 egg whites. Lay off the Salami and Cheese snacks. Move over to turkey and chicken. Beware of fatty fish. Some fats are good. But some can be really bad. I use Isopure 50gram protein shakes 200 calorie 0 fat 0 carbs 50 protein as meal replacements and for fillers when I haven't gotten enough calories out of a meal. Also in case anyone didn't know and you have one close by. In and Out Burger allows you to get any one of their burgers Protein style. They will kill the bun and wrap it in a bunch of lettuce. Had a couple of these the other day for lunch. YUMMY!!!

Anyone looking for more Ideas hit me up or try some of the recipes at http://atkinscenter.com/food/index.html

Some great stuff there. Low carb tortilla's made into Fajita's YUM YUM...

Last but not least... Eat plenty of Spinach and other high fiber veggies. Keep that digestive system flowing. If you found that you haven't had to take the kids for a swim in a few days have something with some carbs and some high fiber to get the pipes flowin again.

Not actually all the healthy for you though Cindy. That puts about 14 hours between your last meal and your breakfast. OUCH... Body can go into starvation mode with this type of meal program.

I heard that Atkins diet makes you fall down and hit your head :Graucho

67 pounds in 6 months...

haven't gained a pound back.. 5-11 and 175 now for close to a year.

I have no financial intrest in mr dead guy atkins :)

Becky 05-09-2003 03:32 PM

I am on it and it really works well :)

I do eat whole wheat carbs for lunch though, because it is really bad for you to go completly without carbs!! Whole Wheat is best because they stay in your system longer then white flour carbs do, so it gives it longer for you to burn off.

Does anyone know what kind of alcoholic drinks I can have that dont have carbs in them?? hahahaha:1orglaugh

Eric I love it. Seriously colon health is very important. I just recently had colonics, I know everyone will gross out, but I did it cause I had a cancer scare. It turned out to not be cancer but damn colonics works. I know the jokes will follow but I love to laugh at my own expense.
