We face a huge problem given to us by decades of governments who have pursued policies that are doomed to fail. Millions have lost jobs to machines, globalisation and badly controlled immigration. Those jobs have been replaced by lower wage jobs or not at all. The cost is seen in increasing debt and decreasing standards of living. Taking in more people that have no right to be there is stupid, but the people passing these measures are paid well and in areas that don't suffer. Wait until they are forced to pay the full amount of tax to support the populace they've created.

Homelessness is something that could cost local government $billions to solve. Look at it purely as a financial matter.

The cost of building a new property X potential income of that property / the amount the potential market can sustain.

London has reached a point in many areas that there's no way the potential market can afford to pay the costs of building, maintaining a property, so tax payers are left paying for the properties. With an ever increasing demand there's no chance of selling and recouping the initial investment.

Is the situation the same in San Francisco, Los Angeles, & Seattle? If so the upper middle class, who are mostly liberals, need to step up and pay more in taxes. Can these cities keep pace with the indigenous population? If not, importing more people is stupid.

The reason there are so many homeless in southern Cali is because many travel there on purpose to be homeless.

Not because of benefits or anything like that, but because there are no real temperature extremes.

The weather stays roughly the same year long so they can comfortably live outdoors. It's the same reason so many people vandwell there as well because the weather is pretty much perfect.

There of course is the segment of people who cant afford to live there but the homeless population is greatly inflated by already homeless people going there for the weather.

They dont get many benefits if any because there are too many. So it's not some Republican fantasy of Democrats giving them a free ride socialist state.. it's the weather..

It's the same reason Republican run FL has shitloads of homeless. FL is the east cost equivalent of southern Cali for the homeless. The weather isnt as good because it gets too hot but they'd rather be in FL in the winter than the north.

It's so bad here that the cost of housing keeps going up.... Because people really really really want to live here.

They keep writing articles about how horrible the homeless situation is in San Francisco, and that the streets are full of shit.... and it's just not true. I've never seen "shit" in San Francisco. Ever. There is homeless, but they tend to hand out at the tourist traps and do tricks for $$$.

For the record I looked it up almost 400 thousand low skilled workers are given US work visa every year that are 6 month visas. Another 280k are giver much longer visas up to 6 years if they are high skilled..

I think it is a little more complex than you're acknowledging, and you've forgotten Baltimore. Remember that economic forces take a while to filter through a city's ecosystem.

The problem with Baltimore is corruption and the right place for the wrong people. Baltimore is in the middle between Philly & Washington and many smaller large cities with out looking up rent prices I'm betting it's the cheapest big city in that area to live. (well aside from maybe some of the port areas in Jersey that are also riddled with drugs, hookers and violence.

There will always be a Baltimore when you have a lot of bigger more well off cities near by.. Somewhere has to be the slums so to speak, because for someone to be on the top it means someone else is on the bottom..

I dunno the population stats of that entire area, from Washington to NYC but I bet it's a fuckton. When you have a fuck ton of people there is gonna be a lot of bad ones..

Look at the picture of the people who got a visa. Do they look like they will be homeless, without a good job, living on the streets?

But over-stayers still need rounding up and getting deported or put into detention centres.

The real problem is one of quality. I know the criteria for getting a visa. I had to help Eva apply for one. It would have failed the first time so had to withdraw it and ended up going to America on my own shortly after we married. The second time it was hard for her to get a Visa and the only thing that swung it was our business accounts and proof she would return.

Flying in many times I and my family have been grilled at immigration, where they can refuse people and send them back. So people who overstay have passed all these hurdles. They won't need housing, have a good job, have money, etc and no criminal record.

People who walk across aren't bothered about visas. They don't have good jobs, money, homes, some have families, many are criminals, many have been deported already. They will cost the tax payers more money.
