This news took me surprise. I didn't expect that! Another great loss for the industry! I'm so sorry! He was only 52 years old!

I enjoyed a lot listening to Chris Cornell singing alone with just his acoustic guitar.

This sucks. I'm from Seattle and know a lot people that knew him. My brother used to work for him. It's early here and people don't know yet. This fucking sucks.

wow, what a huge loss. i can't belive they're saying suicide. one of the most talented vocalists to come out of the grunge scene when a lot of singers were barely singing. soundgarden and alice in chains were always my favorites from 90's seattle.

Damn that sucks! He was a huge talent. What a singer and songwriter! Soundgarden was the only band I liked from the grunge era - they were really hard rock anyway. Audioslave and his solo stuff was good too. He really seemed to have his act together ... way too young. :(:(:(

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Soundgarden was the soundtrack of my youth. To me, Chris Cornell's voice is the sound of rock n roll. I was lucky enough to see them live a few times and he sounds just as good live as he does on CD.

Today the music world fell on black days.

I just heard on the news, the examiner confirmed it was a suicide. So sad.

I couldn't survive my teens in the 90's without Soundgarden. I really loved his solo acoustic shows.

i don't really get why he would hang himself only hours after performing. he must of been more troubled than the public ever knew.

Fucking coward. I feel sad for his wife and 3 kids. No matter how bad it is, there are options to seek help for your mental disorder. I thought he was awesome but after I heard suicide, my opinion has changed

So you knew him well did you?? How the fuck do you know he didn't or wasn't getting help for his illness. Just because someone's getting help doesn't mean the illness can't consume them.

I read tonight the last song he sang was about death and suicide. He had a 4-octave range voice. For a man so talented, he was not too-well-known all over the USA. I recognized the voice and feel bad for his family. Hopefully he's in a better place, away from his demons.

I haven't read of a suicide note though if there was one to his wife, I hope it remains hidden.

His last song was the Led Zeppelin song I posted above.

For those of us who were coming of age in the grunge era, he was VERY well known.

He probably decided years ago that if he was going to kill himself, he'd hang himself.

How do you know he was depressed?

Perhaps he gave his wife hiv...perhaps he was being blackmailed by a gay prostitute...indeed it could be a number of things. Who knows without reading a note.
