haha.. wish..

ex was so deperate for the cash (between the proceeds of the sale and the payoff from me less a discount for cash in advance) that he ended up with about half what it was worth when it was new 3 years before.

my lil 415 horsepower water hot rod

Choker 04-17-2003 09:48 AM

Speaking of boats, does anyone know if a Jeep Wrangler, maybe a V6 can tow a 3500 boat and trailer without killing myself? I have to get something to tow my boat with, the Winebego is just too freaking big to tow it. Thanks

IKE 04-17-2003 09:49 AM

PK do I know you? I am in Seattle. We should go boating this summer.

mule 04-17-2003 09:52 AM

LOL, so does anyone REALLY have a boat?

Here's mine:

Looks a bit odd, as it's being lifted out of the water.

More pics here

Choker, that should be no problem! I tow my NEW boat with a chevy blazer v6 just fine! The boat is just a tad over 4000 pounds...

This is what my boat is supposed to look like....some dickhead modified it. I intend to restore it back to the original condition. It's called a "zalmschouw", it's a traditional Dutch fishing boat, designed for salmon-fishing on the rivers.

Thanks man was not sure, thing is a Jeep Wrangler is so small compared to the 26 ft boat trailer. I have such bad luck I am scared to pull the boat with the camper. But if I got a Jeep I could pull it behind the camper this summer when I hit the road. And the kids of course love the idea of riding in a open vehicle. I guess a 4 x 4 would be better for towing the boat?

Mule, is that on the "Loodsdrechtse plassen" ?

LeeNoga 04-17-2003 11:27 AM

For those that pull boats, am I the only one that worries about the stress on the transmission, anyone put one of those cooling devices on the tranny?

I blew the rack in my power steering in my caddie 2 weeks ago, and they said it had nothing to do with pulling the boat, I wonder.

Its just a 15 ft water ski boat, split bow, 85HP engine but we modified into a fishing boat for some Florida fishing.

I tow the boat 80 miles round trip to where we launch.

Is this like a real bad idea? Boat weights in with engine under 1500lbs. I think. Then there is all the crap :-)

LeeNoga 04-17-2003 11:29 AM

PK I remember when you bought that gorgeous boat. I had no idea you and your husband divorced, sorry to hear that.

My career ended my 18 year marriage and I was *not* the one with the indiscretions, stupid me!

Hope your life is back on track, and you can look back and say, divorce was not such a bad thing. Hope the kids are doing well.

It looks that way, Viper, I'm not sure though...that pic is from the website of the "Vereniging tot behoud van de zalmschouw"
Mine is bobbing around on the canal outside :)

dropped9 04-17-2003 11:34 AM

Lee with a boat of that size you have no worries what so ever with blowing the tranny.... It becomes more of a worry when you start pulling a heavier boat. I have added a tranny cooler to help cool the tranny... Also when going up steep inclines put the car in 3rd and not overdrive as this would cause the transmission to shift way to much going up hill thus causing stress...

BTW the power steering rack had nothing to do with pulling the boat along... :)

Choker with pulling a boat 2 main concerns are tongue weight of the trailer and adequate braking... 4x4 is always a plus.. Helps when you launch the boat at a steep ramp or in bad weather... IE snow, rain, etc etc.....

4 x4 s and small suv's are great for boat towing, usually because the wheelbase is short, so you can out turn the boat trailer when you are backing down the launching ramp

as far as towing, I've towed a lot of trailers with a lot of vehicles, the main thing to decide is where, you're going to tow, what speeds you're going to be driving, and how heavy you are fully loaded

in order of priority
1) braking capability
2) vehicle torque/hp
3) suspension

you have to watch the suspension in 4x4's because some are soft sprung (mushy), which is great for off roading, but not so great for highway towing; little bumps in the road can throw you all over hell :)

They have a really short wheelbase so you have to be careful towing stuff. They don't handle like other cars, they are kind of touchy in that they tend to sort of overreact sometimes. You need to get used to them. This summer I'm going to tow a small fishing boat with my Jeep but those are small and light. I don't know about a 3500 pounder though.

dropped9 04-17-2003 11:42 AM

Like I said my blazer tows my 4k pounder like a champ! When I originaly bought the boat I towed it home from Indiana to upstate NY.... Total of 12 hours.... Not sure on mileage though... And I did a steady 75 mhp with it...
