    Best rock bands by decade?

I saw this list of "best rock bands by decade" on another site. I think it's pretty good with a few exceptions. I noticed Stone Temple Pilots missing from the 90s, a band I would have near the top of that decade.

    What are you thoughts?

    Rush
    Pink Floyd
    The Who

    AC/DC
    Aerosmith
    Pixies

    1980's -
Van Halen deserves more than honorable mention. Very influential band.
Why is A-ha on the list? They were a one hit wonder.
Def Leppard should probably be on it. Sold a shit tom of albums.

    1990's -
Blues Traveler should be on the list. Spearheaded the jam band scene of the 90's. Have since been ostracized from the scene for the unpardonable sin of having a hit record.
    Unvaxxed, still alive.

I know, I noticed A-Ha on there too and laughed. Maybe someone put it in there as a joke.

Do you realize how influential and important Sabbath is? Maybe just as much, or even more than Zeppelin.

But I definitely agree the 90's is great.

Agreed. The Ramones should probably be on the 70's list also.

Radiohead was big in the 90's but you are crazy if you think they have been dead since 2000. Every album they release goes gold and platinum around the world often with little or no radio support, and they sell out arenas around the world when they tour. They just came to Portland a few weeks ago and played to about 18,000. The show sold out in a matter of minutes.

For the 60's you need to add:

                            Byrds
                            Yardbirds
                            Buffalo Springfield
                            Jefferson Airplane
                            Mothers of Invention (70'S too)
Fleetwood Mac - Peter Green Era
                            Traffic

You have the Kinks in the 60's but they need to go into the 70's and 80's too.

You have the Who and the Dead in the 70's but they need to be in the 60's too.

For the 70's you need to add:

                            CSN&Y
Fleetwood Mac - Nicks, Buckingham Era

                            Just imho of course.

                              These should be added:

                              60's-70's Moody Blues
                              80's Journey

Agreed that Black Sabbath and Van Halen deserve more than honorable mention.

                                    these lists are impossible.

so lynyrd skynyrd gets no mention & yes does?

                                    freebird!!!!

note that youbtube has not yet censored skynyrd for their confederate flag backdrop. dumb libs call black lives matter & get on that.

Every album they release goes gold and platinum around the world often with little or no radio support, and they sell out arenas around the world when they tour. They just came to Portland a few weeks ago and played to about 18,000. The show sold out in a matter of minutes.

They're not bad. I just feel like the downward slide into self indulgence happened after OK Computer.

Kind of like Smashing Pumpkins during and post Meloncollie and the Infinite Sadness. Once they moved away from the low end, crunchy riffs and got more experimental that was the beginning of the end. Yes, they were around many years but released nothing which could match Gish or Siamese dream as just good, pure rock. It was so sad to watch it happen and I'm still waiting for them to get back to their roots of basically rocking my ass off.

When it comes to radiohead, they got too far away from straightforward song writing and became just plain....weird. There's flashes of that early vibe here and there in the newer stuff, but it's largely inaccessible for me. But I'm not crazy about seeing my favorite bands evolve too much. That's just me.

I was loving the new Metallica album because I feel like they lost their balls with the black album in the early 90's (post And Justice for All), and have been nutless ever since. Hardwired was as close to Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning as I've heard in years, and they could gone ever further with it.

I thought Kid A was more like Ok Computer than it was different from it, but it does signal a departure of sorts for the band. They did get more experimental and just strange odd. I will agree that their newer stuff isn't as good as the older stuff and I sometimes skip a song here or there on the album, but I think they are still a great band, especially live.

I have always loved Metallica. And Justice for All is one of my favorite records. I am one of those people who really liked the black album, but it was different and "softer." Hardwired is fantastic. It is them returning to what they once did and worrying less about writing songs that can get on the radio. I saw them live with Guns N Roses, one of the best concerts I have ever been to.

I appreciate that they are out there trying to do something different and unique, but I just don't get it and I'm not a fan of it. I guess Radiohead is my kind of weird where Flaming Lips isn't.
