some additional points:

Polanski entered a plea bargain agreement with the District Attorney's office. It was minimal punishment, but whatever. When it went before the judge, he DID NOT ALLOW THE PLEA BARGAIN!

The judge said he was going to sentance him to prison, after he already had a deal with the DA! hence he left the county.

Also, the girl, who is now like 50, wrote a editorial in the LA Times a month ago saying that she basically never remember the incident b/c she was given some sort of drug with alcohol. Therefore, because of that, she felt it wasn't something that required prison time, and that she has not trouble with him being allowed back into the US.

Actually, if you think about it, this is all Charles Mason's fault!

the award was for best director..not for best morals. The Pianist was a beautifully directed film.

Woody Allen has has a ton of nominations and his morals are questionable. They didn't even let anyone accept on his behalf..they just gave it to him based on what was an outstanding piece of art.

Was thrilled not to see it handed to Gangs Of New York just because it would have been easy to do it or to Chicago because the Douglas clan has so much clout. I mean come on...when both Douglases showed up was there any doubt what was best picture. Atleast it was a suprise.
