DarkJedi 03-23-2003 09:57 AM

You stupid fuck, Geneva convention is an Internation Law Act.
So is United Nation resolutions. USA is a member of United Nations and UN didn't approve this war. So USA and UK broke the international law.

hypocrits. they expect iraq to follow what the UN says, but they don't have to.

the geneva convention wasn't from the UN i don't believe

Carrie 03-23-2003 10:08 AM

The US and UK have NOT broken ANY International Laws.
UN Resolution 678 gives the US and her allies FULL permission to go into Iraq and use whatever means necessary to rid the country of weapons that go against the UN resolutions... resolution 687 specifically tells us to CONTINUE using whatever means necessary to enforce 678.
Those resolutions were never revoked.

If you're going to run your mouth, know what the fuck you're talking about.

Gutterboy 03-23-2003 10:10 AM

Carrie: didn't the Bush administration refuse to follow the Geneva Convention with regards to Al Qaeda and Taliban prisoners?

I saw video on MSNBC yesterday of a reporter walking around Iraqi POW's and putting the camera right into their faces. One guy had a blanket over his head and the cameraman got down low to look up into the guys face. The reporter even walked up to a POW and picked up some of his person things and showed them to the camera. There were US soldiers escorting the reporter around the POW's.

Cant find the video on MSNBC.com now.. it was there yesterday.

I also saw this video but it was on cnn last night. The reporter was pointing out that they had slippers and one was eating army rations, which he picked up and showed the camera

actually you just backed her arguement up 100%
The resolution was adopted giving definate timelines and allowing for military action if not met. This resolution was never revoked, meaning it is still in effect today. The US did not go against the UN at all, seeing as this resolution was either unanimously agreed upon by all delegates or damn close to all of them.

SoulJah 03-24-2003 02:56 AM

The UN is a joke and waste of money. The US alone pays 25% of their operations. Countries can break laws and they don't do shit!

Hello ? after that resolution had been adopted, the action was taken - the Gulf War.

A week ago UN had a new resolution that US and UK refused to vote on and just invaded Iraq.

nuclei 03-24-2003 03:02 AM

Hello??

and has already been noted in another thread "france" was already on to veto the new resolution immediately. Which is why it was not voted on. why bother when you know its not going thru?

The existing resolution was all that was written up til then. That resolution is just being enforced. I dont particularly like the way bush has done a lot of things, but saying the govt was doing something illegal attacking is just wrong. Their real reasons for war may be wrong, but they had legal right to enforce that resolution.

kenny 03-24-2003 03:06 AM

They dont need international support or permission to invade Iraq. They just wanted it. I think giving the Iraqi military a warning reguarding captured US/British soilders was fair enough.

1 country (france) can not veto a resolution and make it not pass.
All countries vote on a resolution. And US/UK/Spain just started the war without any voting because they knew other countries would vote against that war.

sacX 03-24-2003 03:27 AM

whether what the US/UK is doing is against International Law is a moot point. There is no court to try the case (no thanks to the US :)).

There are many "experts" who claim Intl law has been broken, and many who claim it hasn't

Gemini 03-24-2003 03:27 AM

Jedi...

First search for the ceasefire agreements that Iraq signed
Second Search for what a ceasefire MEANS
Third, Search for WHO the Iraqi's signed the ceasefire WITH
Fourth, Have your humble pie quietly

(You'll learn more if YOU search them out instead of whining for links to be handed to you AND you might even learn to research before you make yourself out to be an expert and then turn into a fool)

And solly Chalie, ONE country CAN Veto ANY resolution in front of the Security Council, IF they are one of the permenent nations.

Who made FRANCE one (perm member) is beyond me tho. :1orglaugh Must have been an inside joke that has backfired.

I think France AND Russia have some tallllll 'splaining to do and very soon too!

sacX 03-24-2003 03:29 AM

oh and by the way the UN security council is formed. There is no way the security council can find US or UK in breach of UN resolutions because they can automatically veto anything that goes through there :)

These guys want to espouse all sorts of nonsense about the UN and related things Nuclei, but so far not many of them have been even in the ballpark with their rants. Its a shame that someone who was taught this BS in High School TWENTY TWO YEARS ago has hung onto more of the knowledge than they bothered to learn. :Graucho

DarkJedi 03-24-2003 03:55 AM

there, you said it.
USA invaded Iraq knowing that France was going to veto agains the war. They didnt get green light from the UN security council.

The fact is the resolution never made it to vote. Whatever the reason is not even relevant due to the previous resolution giving the US full power to attack.

Period.

Argue all you wish, but it will not change the facts.

Have fun arguing with yourself in this thread :1orglaugh
