San Bernardino Shooter's Neighbor Arrested On Terror Charges, Allegedly Planned Earlier Attacks

Enrique Marquez, a neighbor and friend of one of the San Bernardino shooters, has been arrested for allegedly providing material support to terrorists, officials said.

Authorities said that Marquez and shooter Syed Farook allegedly began plotting terror attacks in Southern California in 2011 -- "attacks which were, fortunately, not carried out -- and discussed a firearms and explosives attack on Riverside Community College.

"While there currently is no evidence that Mr. Marquez participated in the Dec. 2, 2015 attack or had advance knowledge of it, his prior purchase of the firearms and ongoing failure to warn authorities about Farookâ??s intent to commit mass murder had fatal consequences," said U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker of the Central District of California.

Farook's attack on the Inland Regional Center, committed along with his wife Tashfeen Malik, left 14 people dead and another 22 injured. The FBI was investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.

According to authorities, Marquez illegally purchased the two "assault rifles" that were used in the massacre along with a pair of hand guns. He also allegedly bought smokeless powder to make explosives in 2012 and went to firing ranges in Riverside and Los Angeles to practice.

Contact between the two men declined in 2013 and they ceased planning attacks, Marquez allegedly told authorities.

This was a pretty obvious conclusion considering the guy checked himself into a mental hospital the day of the shooting. He obviously knew of the attack and had his hands in the mix.

Yea, but it was smart for law enforcement to delay arresting Enrique since he was freely talking anyhow. Because if they arrested him early on, they would have had to read him his Miranda rights, and Enrique might have requested a lawyer...then the lawyer would have instructed him to stop talking.

I suspect that the FBI lied to him and said "if you tell us everything now, we won't arrest you". And Enrique fell for it

L-Pink 12-17-2015 05:38 PM

Homeland security scooped him up. He had no rights.

Every person arrested by the government within the US has 5th Amendment / Miranda warning rights.

Wrong. If arrested for "terrorism" You can be held without benefit of counsel, you can also not expect attorney/client privacy when a lawyer is allowed.

Just because some government agent might deny a terror suspect his 5th amendment rights, doesn't mean the terror suspect has no 5th amendment rights. Just like if the government denies a person his 2nd amendment gun rights, it does not mean that person has no 2nd amendment right. It simply means the government overreached and abused its power.

Well I guess we know where you'll stand if government bans certain guns...judging from the logic you've posted here, you'll say people don't have 2nd amendment rights, because the government said so.

You said a terror suspect arrested in the US has no rights. That is false, and thus not a fact. The only thing that might be a fact is the government denying a terror suspect his rights. Those are two different things.

The Federal Supreme Court decides what rights a terror suspect has or anyone else has...not you and not anyone else...and it is a fact that all suspects do not have the same rights according to previous rulings by the Supreme Court.

I never claimed terror suspects have all the same rights as everyone else. I disputed L-Pink's claim that terror suspects have no rights. Because the Supreme Court clearly recognized that they do have rights when it ruled that U.S. citizens may be designated as enemy combatants, but due process rights still apply to any U.S. citizens in detention. They also have the right to a hearing on enemy combatant status before a neutral tribunal.https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/542/507/

This is just the most bizarre story... ever.

https://theconservativetreehouse.fil...hbor.jpg?w=640

Marquez checked himself into a mental hospital a few hours after the attack.
Neighbor Who Allegedly Purchased Rifles Used By San Bernardino Terrorists Revealed… | The Last Refuge

Can you just stop on by a mental institution and check yourself in?

Then use your cellphone the next day to admit to buying all the guns? ... at the mental institution?

"A transcription of a 911 call placed by a Marquez, 24, "hours after the shooting" was included in the complaint. In it, he claims that he only gave the gun to Farook for "safe storage."

But the shooting took place on the 2nd... and the 911 call was suppose to have taken place on the 3rd.

Interesting, the FBI gave him Miranda rights, and he still talked...I still suspect they offered a carrot to him in exchange for his cooperation.

Yeah I know, but I thought Enrique would be a little more savvy about that given the years of planning that he apparently undertook. I did not suspect him to be as uninformed as the simpleton perps they show on COPS.

Yea, but he could have refused to sign the waiver to halt the interrogation. He didn't have to sign that waiver. Which leads me to suspect that the FBI dangled a carrot in front of him to convince him to sign the waiver...like a fake promise to not arrest him or some other silly thing, which he fell for.

Don't know why... I will add it to the... this fucking thing smells like shit category. Who in their right mind would talk with FBI for 10 days straight, in total isolation, not able to leave, and not demand an attorney over and over.

They said he asked for an attorney a few hours into interrogation on the first day then decided against that and to continue talking... for another 9 and 1/2 days... sure :2 cents:

who is pinko and the story is odd as shit... if you don't think jailing a person for 10 days, interrogating them for 10 days, and them not asking for an attorney or just walking the fuck out (if they could), then I'm not sure what to say, except, you would likely think the governor of NJ is clean as a whistle and a worthy candidate to be our president.

Really? I just posted a court document of an FBI agent saying the dude asked for an attorney on day 1, but instead of going through with said attorney, decided it was better for him to stay with his pals for another 9 days just to be the good american citizen.

And in those 10 days total... decided to tell them about totally untraceable terroristic plans back in 2011 and 2012 with the only evidence of such planned attack being the "white powder" found somewhere that still is unclear to me.

Don't you find it odd at all? Any reason to ask questions?

I'm not sure what is happening here but clearly a disconnect between what is being discussed... and what you are saying.

I posted the FBI complaint to United States District Court exactly one hour before you posted this...
