paypal quits processing for adult transaction
Just got this email from them hot off the press.
Glad I quit using them a long time ago. We are writing to inform you that PayPal has modified its Acceptable Use Policy. As of May 12, 2003, PayPal will no longer support transactions for adult content or products. After a careful review of the financial factors relating to the processing of adult transactions, we concluded that this change was the best course of action for our business. We understand that payment processing is a critical component of any business, and hope that this two-month notice will provide you with sufficient time to transition to an alternate payment system. Summary of the New Policy Under the terms of the Acceptable Use Policy, effective May 12, 2003, PayPal will no longer allow accounts to send or receive payments for adult content or products that are not sold through the Mature Audiences section of eBay's website. PayPal will continue to process payments for eBay-hosted items that are in compliance with eBay's listing requirements and restrictions because eBay listings are easier to monitor than website-based transactions. Click here to read the full terms of the Acceptable Use Policy. You may keep your PayPal account open after May 12, 2003, on a good faith basis. Your transaction history will still be viewable online, and you may continue to withdraw funds under your current account guidelines. Reserves for accounts with rolling reserves will continue to operate, with reserves ending 180 days after the receipt of the last transaction. Because you are not being required to close your PayPal account, your account access may be limited if it is determined that your account activity violates PayPal's new policy on adult content. PayPal customers affected by the new policy who paid the Visa, MasterCard High Risk registration fee will have their registration fee refunded. The fee will be refunded no later than June 13, 2003. Thank You for Your Business We apologize for any inconvenience this change will cause to you, and would like to thank you for your business. If you have any questions about the Acceptable Use Policy, please feel free to contact your account manager. Sincerely, The PayPal Team |
hmmm
can you post a link to their new accepable usage policy? it says it in the post but there's no link. |
I wonder if this goes so far as to mean that I cannot pay for my webhost because they host porn sites or services like Choker and other like that.
If I was a webhost accepting paypal and hosted adult sites I would be leary of them freezing my accounts. Just my :2 cents: |
Interesting, tho not surprising.

Another thousand wm´s will bite the dust on this one for sure.

Not all webhosts are specifically adult.
I think they're talking about adult paysites that have recurring transactions through PayPal. |

I really don't think this applies to adult websites. If you read the summary it only mentions adult products via ebay.
I think we will need some clarification on this. Regardless it's no great loss. Seems funny that only 6 months ago all the big adult webmasters received emails from account managers at paypal asking us to use paypal for adult web transactions and now they appear not to want our business? Strange... Terry www.projectvoyeur.com |

I will have to phone them and ask if I'm included.
We are listed as business to business, but I'm in the process of getting a merchant account, so for the content store it's no problema and I would not have used them for a paysite. Can't be because of ChargeBacks, auctions are the worse sector of the market for that. |

Unless you are completing a transaction on the eBay Mature Audiences site, you may not use PayPal to sell or purchase "adult" or "sexually oriented" material. That says NO ADULT CRAP UNLESS IT IS SOLD ON EBAY! Here is the full text to the new crap.... http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...side&ed=mature Hugs, Danielle |

Hi -
Well , Paypal rains on the KittyLiXX parade! Since KittyLiXX is also an adult seller on Ebay ( I haven't received the email yet) ... what service do you guys recommend I use? Is there one out there that is comparable that we should be signing up for? I also accept Paypal on my retail site www.kittylixx.com for adult products. I will have to read the fine print closely . I take MC and Visa already but I find most of my ebay buyers are Paypal Centric .... Funny thing about this rule w/ eBAY - - I can sell a make it Big Penis pump under massage products other - - and take paypal no prob. I can offer the same product under adult and not be able take Paypal . I also sell sexy hard to find panties and stockings under adult - Now I can't take Paypal for clothing ? Frigging stooges! All of us trying to make a living ! Any recomendations for a new service welcome - |
I wonder if you can still sell adult DVDS or if they see a DVD as a DVD regardless of what the content on the DVD actually is.
I think a lot of content providers might get screwed in this one.. |

Will severely hurt the really small providers though (I think) |

This only makes logical sense.
Even though EBAY is a great place to sell your junk, their business practices suck. They act as if they are a monopoly (like bell Canada) and I suppose they are in a way. Since they now own PayPal this was only the next logical step. |

Might be to much for some of the providers with just 10-50 sets :) |
screw paypal
|
Wow, that sucks for content providers.

This is another reason for people to use www.epassporte.com
Affilate programs and CC processors could payout to epassporte and content providers could receive payment this way. GO EPASSPORTE! :thumbsup |
I dont use PayPal but still got the email. I think this part here:
PayPal will no longer support transactions for adult content or products Makes their intentions perfectly clear. |
This bites.
|
And what will happen to the people who paid 1500$?
LOL! :1orglaugh |

I never paid the fees but kept using them for adult anyway...
I figured not taking adult would be next anyway with ebay buying them.. They said they will refund the fees at some point. ---------------------------- And what will happen to the people who paid 1500$? LOL! ---------------------------- |

i am a content provider - and still haven't received the email? Maybe the clarity of "PayPal will no longer support transactions for adult content or products" isn't so clearly defined yet?
