I kind of did see this coming... but only since the past week when her condition was all over the news.

I hear she had many a facelift. Perhaps that's why everyone thought she would be around for another hundred years. Ironically it appears that having yet another 'surgical procedure' of this type is what has led to her demise.

She was an icon, must give her that, although I wasn't a fan she did have her moments. RIP.

They are opening an investigation, so something apparently isn't setting right with them about her death or what happened - it seemed like it was a simple and common procedure and things went to hell - so they had already started that investigation - I pity the soul if there was foul play there.

It was something with the combination of her age and the procedure...but I really think she could have gone to 100. The woman gets around like someone 20 years younger, and she was sharp as a tack mentally.

rickles isn't dead

Joan was having a procedure done on her vocal cords. They were working in her neck and throat. A number of things could have went wrong and 1 or more obviously did now the incident has resulted in an investigation of the facility.

While it may seem humorous to joke about all her plastic surgeries a bit of respect might be a good thing for the moment.

Farewell Joan Rivers and sympathy/condolences for her daughter and the family that had to make the ultimate choice of removing her from life support.

You don't know much about her or have never watched her comedy. No person or subject was ever off limits.

So sad! :(

She was coarse, abrasive, and outspoken, that is what made her whom she was.

I do not believe she made many comments that were truly intended to be hurtful or malicious though.

She, the same as all those who pass, still deserves a little respect. We all should hope for the same when our time ends.

I grew up with her on TV, not really a big fan but she was part of the extended family entertainers become to us. A loud obnoxious aunt that made half the family laugh and the other half uncomfortable.

An 81 year old having surgery under general anesthesia in a clinic is really bad medicine.

She left the stage to applause the night before the surgery - I bet exactly the way she hoped to leave this world.

How could you not see this coming? She's 82 years old and has been in ICU for the past week. When you are that old and you go into the ICU.... Chances are you aren't coming out.

Actually lately she'd been saying a LOT that was intentionally pissing people off and hurtful - but that's all beside the point - if she were here, she'd be laughing her ass off right along with us - she often made fun of her own plastic surgery and all the work she'd had done - that's just how she was - lol

She had complications during throat surgery and never recovered. Most likely, she aspirated due to an incompetent anesthesiologist. Most people dont recover from that and it happens more often than you'd think it does.

One of the thing that pisses comics off the most is when people take offense to a joke. I feel for her family, as everyone does. And yes you are right, if someone is being intentionally malicious as in they are just ripping on her not to make a joke then it's not a joke, but a joke is a joke. Doesn't matter at all if she died, if she was alive, she would've laughed.

One of the best ways you can celebrate a comic's life is to rip a joke about them.

Bill Burr was saying the other day on his podcast she should be considered one of the top 5 comics of all time. :2 cents:

Actually no I didn't - worse things have happened and people in worse shape have come thru it - I just knew she'd be pulling thru that, as tough as she was, it never entered my mind that she wouldn't pull thru this like she has everything else.
