Hmmm...let me think....my favorite guy who pushes "start" on a computer sequence of "music"... can't think of just one. They are all so "talented" (as in Kardashian-style "talent")

Yeah, composers are lame people, like Beethoven. The guy isn't even alive to hand the notes or to push the start button.

Or might it be that the work is done upfront?

Are you referring to sampling other people's music as "composing"??? Okay. I guess that explains things if that is what people think.

Beethoven compared to some DJ...really?

As for the "work is done upfront"...yeah, you can say the same thing for Britney Spears and Justin Bieber when they are lip synching.

I think that the reason people in 2014 think that a fucking DJ (from the word "disc jockey") is a "star" is because of the lack of live music in most places.

When I turned 18, there were 3 clubs in my small hick town that had live bands every night.
When I moved to Miami in 1981, there were literally hundreds of big live music nightclubs.

These days? To see a live band is a rarity. And most of the live bands are "death metal" bands playing endlessly in dropped "D" tuning and using their "Satan voice".

Sorry man...I just can't put a fucking disc jockey on the same level as an actual musician.

You put a great band onstage who can really play...that is "talent". A guy programming some pre-recorded music on software??? That is bullshit being fed to the public (and the public eating it up).

Robbie 09-03-2014 04:21 PM

Here is a guy who had some real talent. And a roomful of musicians with talent. And they are recording what was a hit record in the mid-1960's.
No overdubs. No "sampling".

Just one take LIVE straight to tape:

dillonaire 09-03-2014 04:27 PM

I like DJ from Juicy Ads

VSKevin 09-03-2014 05:30 PM

Fucking Tiesto for LIFE! :D

In my opinion, a lot of these EDM "DJ"s are totally rockin' the wrong title. Unless they use or have some turntablism in their music, they're not DJs.

When you rock this as your "turntable",

https://www.apple.com/macbook-air/im...o_enhanced.png

you're a producer and will be recognized by me as such. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the music. I just think these guys are undeserving of the DJ title. Real DJs:

He made a lot better tunes back when he was producing trance, instead of house.

You think that making music is just sampling other people's music? Well, some sample and some don't, but nevertheless the new music is new music if it's different enough. If you haven't got this, "remix" is that sampled music, other isn't. Remixed music is usually clearly labeled as remix.

Yes, Beethoven was composer as anyone else who does their own music. And I was not talking about live music, that is usually anyways the same stuff than on record.

Yup. The stuff Tiesto plays now is nothing like he used to.

We used to travel all over the place to follow him. My best club night ever is still the original Tiesto "concert" in Holland. What a night!!

There are some who don't just press play:

xNetworx 09-04-2014 08:34 AM

Most of todays "DJs" are actually producers posing as DJs to capitalize on their hit singles.

Vinyl used to keep them honest. When I see a "DJ" with a laptop open on stage I cringe.

Paul Van Dyk hides behind a laptop for most of the time he's on.

And yes it is fucking annoying...
