Game Over War Machine - Arrested by US Marshals in Simi Valley
 

The United States Marshal's Service requested assistance from the Simi Valley Police Department to effect the arrest of Jonathan "War Machine" Koppenahver on 8/15/14 at approximately 1:45 P.M.

The United States Marshal possessed an arrest warrant for Koppenhaver stemming from an incident in Las Vegas Nevada last week. Koppenhaver was a former resident of Simi Valley and the Marshals investigation indicated he was possibly staying in Simi Valley, CA.

Further investigation revealed he was staying at the Extended Stay America Hotel located at 2498 Stearns Street in Simi Valley. Simi Valley Officers along side United States Marshals pinpointed his exact room and arrested him without incident.

Inside the room was a small quantity of cash and some pizza. The United States Marshal's Service turned Mr. Koppenhaver over to the Simi Valley Police Department for booking on his warrant from Nevada. He was transported to the Ventura County Jail.

All further inquiries should be directed to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department or the United States Marshals Service. Simi Valley Police are providing this as notification of the incident and have no further investigative role in the criminal investigation.

Anyone know what exactly needs to take place for the US Marshals to get involved?

More than likely that he was on probation when the crimes occurred, so it would immediately revoke his probation and/or parole of some sort, and make him an immediate fugitive from justice.

I know they handle fugitives, especially across state lines but I've seen them operating speed traps in my neighborhood with the local police. I guess this homeland security stuff puts them all in the same column.

Once the person crosses state lines and becomes a fugitive the U.S. Marshals can get involved. For a case like this, they usually don't. But since it's high profile, they got involved. They knew War Machine wasn't going to stick around Vegas, was a flight risk to leave the country, and even though it's not a capital offense or prison escape, they got involved.

I wonder if anyone tipped off the cops and will be collecting the $20K reward???

That bothers me on many many levels, I hope they werent operating a speed trap but instead a net for a fugitive. Speeding is in no way shape or form in the scope of the US Marshals, nor should it be, ever.

It was definitely a speed trap. At the end of the month, law enforcement is out in force to make their quota. The Marshall's vehicle was hidden and as you pull upon it, he would point the radar gun at you to check speed. I was very surprised to see US Marshall on the side of the vehicle. The local police had a vehicle in the same direction a block away. I suspect that the Marshall would tag you and radio the car ahead.

I wonder how long before Christy sees him during visitation at county jail.

Does anyone know if Dog The Bounty Hunter will be getting his $10,000 reward for catching him or did the US Marshalls/Police actually found him before Dog The Bounty Hunter did?
