What the fuck happened to me?!?!?!

For a couple minutes today, I couldn't talk. I mean I could verbally make noises, but I couldn't say the names of simple items like a cup, or a chair, or someone's name. I was in a meeting at the office and I just started mumbling (mid sentence) like someone on a 10 day coke binge and no sleep. It's like my brain couldn't figure out what my mouth was supposed to say. It cleared up in about 5 minutes, but what the fuck was that all about?!?!

mineistaken 07-02-2014 05:18 PM

Maybe those 2 balls on your head took over?

keysync 07-02-2014 05:18 PM

Mutt 07-02-2014 05:30 PM

Definitely get yourself checked out, that could be a symptom of a potential stroke. There are other possibilities but don't ignore what happened.

Any other symptoms while this happened? Blurred vision, lightheaded/dizzy, tingling in arm/hands, headache?

Good luck

Seth Manson 07-02-2014 05:31 PM

This happened to you.

Mutt 07-02-2014 05:35 PM

I don't know who Rob is. If anybody does know him send him a message or email and encourage him to get to a doctor or ER.

The Porn Nerd 07-02-2014 05:42 PM

Hopefully Rob is taking everyone's advice and is being checked out at a hospital RIGHT NOW.

My mom had several strokes so i know how serious this shit is. Good luck to you Rob!

ilnjscb 07-02-2014 05:53 PM

may not be a stroke - but there are two types of strokes, and if you had a TIA stroke you could seem fine. Go immediately - like now - to a doctor.

I didn't have, nor do I have any of these other symptoms. The only thing was the trouble speaking (I could understand and I wasn't confused), it was like my mouth didn't know what my mind was trying to get it to say. Fuck, this is why I hate the internet. Now I feel like if I don't rush to the ER, I'll die in my sleep from a massive stroke. :helpme

shake 07-02-2014 05:58 PM

Get checked out !!

Rob 07-02-2014 06:02 PM

I took this test and got a 16% chance it was a TIA stroke. But now I'm fucking terrified. It really was the strangest feeling.

candyflip 07-02-2014 06:03 PM

That's definitely a precursor to or was a minor stroke.

AdultKing 07-02-2014 06:03 PM

I knew someone who ignored something similar when it happened, her funeral was a week later.

GO TO A HOSPITAL RIGHT NOW. Not a doctor - you probably need a CT scan or MRI and urgent medical attention where they have the right gear to keep you going.

Rob 07-02-2014 06:06 PM

Just so we have all the variables in place, I am undergoing a lot of stress at the moment (long story, but a lot of attorneys involved), my doctor prescribed Xanax and I've been popping them like candy, and I haven't been sleeping well at night. I don't drink alcohol or do any other drugs. Prior to the meeting, I ran into my office to get a phone call, then ran back to the conference room so I was a little winded at the time. I'm in good physical shape, work out every day.

Rob 07-02-2014 06:08 PM

No, it wasn't the Xanax, I've been prescribed and taking Xanax for the past 5 years (general anxiety disorder). I didn't go suddenly loopy because of them.

Sounds like a minor stroke...which means you need to be checked out and follow a regime and meds they will provide you with to help avoid the big one.

A stroke took out PF. He had several minor stokes then the big one killed him...which is really better than ending up a helpless cripple.

Rob 07-02-2014 06:11 PM

I had a CAT scan and MRI done back in February, would anything have shown up then or is a stoke something that just happens instantly (or relatively quick)? Both tests showed that I had minor brain damage in the rear lobe from playing football, but nothing else to be concerned with.

Stop posting on GFY and go to the hospital. A co-worker I had once had somewhat similar symptoms while at work. It turned out he had a minor aneurysm in his brain.

Don't panic. It could have been something else or one of those events even a medical workup won't explain. But to be on the safe side get yourself checked out now.

There you go. You don't want to end up having to come back to life on GFY after faking your stroke.

That should be enough incentive to get to a specialist ASAP.

Rob 07-02-2014 06:24 PM

Going to my GP tomorrow morning. I'm hoping it was stress induced and not a mini-stroke or aneurism. Like I said, no headache, no numbness, or any other symptoms, and I wasn't nearly as bad as the news reporter in the videos. I could still speak but I had to do it really slow and think about my words, and sometimes I stuttered or said the same word multiple times. I took a walk, came back in a couple minutes and was fine. Going to the doc in the AM regardless.

Mutt 07-02-2014 06:28 PM

Good :thumbsup

Seriously go to ER, don't wait until you see the GP in the morning because if you're wrong you'll wind up either dead or close enough to it.

Zuzana Designs 07-02-2014 06:41 PM

Glad to hear you're getting checked out and hope everything will be ok Rob.

Good advice, You need to go to the ER and have it checked out. Could be a mini stroke.

Also if you have been drinking water like crazy, you could of flushed to many salts etc. from your body. and that would give similar symptoms.

Edit: Eat a banana, Drink some Gatorade, and take your ass to the ER right now.

Im not a doctor but Im thinking mild stroke. One of my friends just had one of those as well. 32 years old :(

Barry-xlovecam 07-02-2014 07:58 PM

http://www.stroke.org/site/PageServer?pagename=tia

Get some medical attention within 24 hrs -- you are pushing your luck maybe.

It also could have had some sort of Panic Anxiety Attack -- you say you are eating Xanax like candy ... Better it be diagnosed as that rather then having a serious stroke in the near future.

What part of the brain you have a TIA occur in would cause different symptoms. Sounds like it may have been (see: http://www.d.umn.edu/~mmizuko/2230/msd.htm ) caused by a small lesion (dead cells in the brain) caused by a transient ischemic attack (TIA) event, harbinger of more strokes within 48 hrs.

Not intended as medical advice or diagnosis -- seek medical attention ASAP.

Rob 07-03-2014 11:27 AM

Update: Doc took vitals, tests, etc. Everything checked out. He referred me to a specialist (go figure) and that appointment isn't until next week. He did say with the short duration and lack of other symptoms, it's highly unlikely a mini-stroke, or a TIA stroke. I haven't had any other symptoms reoccur. I think I just lost my shit for a couple minutes. At least I'll sleep tonight.

Ibuprofen

Q. "Labeling seems to indicate a possible heart risk. How serious is this risk?"

A ... "It can also cause damage to the kidneys (nephrotoxicity), worsening of heart failure, and even heart attack or stroke." ... "All of these drugs have a black box warning from the FDA, which reads: "Cardiovascular Risk: May increase risk of serious and potentially fatal cardiovascular thrombotic events, MI and stroke. Risk may increase with duration of use. Increased risk if existing cardiovascular disease or risk factors." ...

Barry-xlovecam 07-03-2014 02:06 PM

See a Neurologist. Sudden confusion of muscle articulation for speech, or confusion of the articulation of words could be caused by a lot of things -- some minor and some more serious.
