How do you guys handle email for your sites - IMAP/offline client, webmail, etc?
I'm in the process of migrating to a new host/server, got me thinking about revising my email approach. Curious to see how everyone else works with email here.
Do you use a client like Thunderbird with IMAP or similar setup, combined with whatever IMAP interface your mobile devices have? This works alright except you wind up storing files locally across multiple devices - which can be a waste of space - and you can't quickly access from a new device that isn't yet set up. A webmail setup lets you access anywhere, anytime, but in my experience many of them can be kinda glitchy or lacking certain features that standalone clients have. So yeah, what about you? Guess I'm sort of wondering if there's some perfect solution out there that I've missed somehow. |
Currently I use Sherweb, and pay for their email hosting.
However I'm sure I could save move and install a few spam prevention things and use imap. |
I currently access via webmail, but would prefer imap and will set it up soon. If you worry about different devices I would set it to not delete read messages from server. I will be accessing from my main work computer so not much of an issue for me. As for spam, I use contact forms instead of posting my email addy online. This is for the actual site emails from the different domains, I use gmail for most b2b email communication.

dozens of sites and email account plus everyday email notification about promo content from hundreds of sponsors. All archived for last several years back. Outlook 2010, everything in one PST file that I can easily backup and move around. Fast search and rules for automatic sorting of incoming emails. I do not see alternative. Of course, on SSD drive
