New Mexico cops shoot homeless man to death for illegal camping.
 

A homeless whom was obviously mentally ill was shot to death by Albuquerque police department members because he was camping illegally. He had been in a stand off with the cops for a few hours and was armed with knifes according to the officers. Meanwhile the officers were armed with assault rifles and shot him 6 times even though the suspect never made a threading move toward them.

The video is out there from the helmet can and it's pretty clear the guy was picking up his stuff to leave. He bent over picked up his backpack then picke up so e other stuff turning away and the cops opened fire on him. After he was already on the ground bleeding out, they shot him with a bean bag shot gun three times and tazed him.

The police department called it a justified shooting because during the 3 hour stand off they claim he threatened the cops lives...

This is the 22nd time since 2010 that cops in Albuquerque have shot and killed civilians.

NM is also the state where cops anally raped two people using doctors to search for drugs that were never found.

I'm very much considering skipping NM on my tour around this country.. Im in Texas now but I think I'll be going around New Mexico..

Another dude was just shot there today under similar-ish circumstances. A lot of he-said-cops-said about whether he was armed & whatnot.

Albuquerque and New Mexico in general are pretty nice places, but as an institution their police dept needs some kinda independent internal investigation and serious changes.

It's old news but they finally released the helmet cam video. The guy never made a move at them.. He was argumentative, yes but he never once made a threading move at the officers. He was actually turning his back on them when they shot him to death.

The two cops that shot him, should be charged with murder.

The guy was in the middle of the desert not harming anyone. He was crazy and they knew it. The cops were standing almost on top of the guy pointing M16s at him.. They had zero reason to be that close to him which puts their lives at risk. They should of given the guy space and talked him out no matter if it took 3hrs or 6.

There was zero need to escalate the situation as there was no one at risk of being harmed until the cops shot him dead. They didn't even have the tazer or the bean bag gun out and ready, they had assault rifles ready to take him down. After they shot him they had to call in the guy with the bean bag gun and taser.

This is clearly a case of cops having no real training but being given assault rifles as if they were soldiers. The cops should of been no where near the guy specially with rifles..

you can say what you would have done :2 cents:they are trained to react to certain moves. i know to put up my hands or get in felony position.

one or two of them had already had previous issues, and was said to be hired on a civilian basis and not allowed to carry weapons

now a man is dead, over a $10 citation.

New Mexico is also the state where they forced a guy to get anal surgery for no reason to "search for drugs".

It wasn't just one guy they did it to. They did it a second time about a month later and it was in the same county as the first.

They could of given him an order to vacate within 24 hours or they would be back. Would of allowed him some dignity and could of moved to a new area. These fucking cunt pigs need shot and left in the desert to be picked at by the buzzards. Murderers plain and simple.

he was not shot for camping, he was shot for not putting the knife down..what do you expect the cops to do...well if you don't put it down..we will just go.. cops are paid not to lose. they tell you to put it down, put it down.

Shooting should not really be the preferred method for dealing with the mentally ill...

Hard to be a decent cop. Sad event, just like many others.

There no longer is state run mental hospitals. At best they get taken to a place for 24 or 48 hours then dumped back on the streets again. It's that or they end up in prison for something and still don't get treatment. This is why they are on the street and this is how cops deal with them..

I lived in NM for a few years. It's a really tough place. The cops are pricks for sure.

You young guys growing up in the world where cops shoot people who aren't even holding an actual weapon and defending it are fucked. That is all.

Back in the day, they couldn't use deadly force on so done whom was simply holding a weapon and surely not on a person that was bent over with his back turned. Now days cops are trained to look at citizens as the enemy and a us vs them mentally is fostered.

I'm amazed there haven been more Christopher Dorner type instances where people go out specifically hunting cops.

The reason they were there was ... because.. he..was...camping... So yes if not for them trying to arrest him for camping he would still be alive. That was their probable cause to "interact" with him. So are you proud of these cops? Are they shining examples of how those in positions of power should be?

LOL, I am not for cops in this situation. I was merely saying that they shot him NOT because of illegal camping. He was shot because he did something else (like threaten or did some moves - I did not read what was the reason, but fact - they did not shoot him for illegal camping).

Example according to your "logic":

Some dude throws trash on the ground, somebody calls cops on him, they arrive, he darws gun on them and gets killed.

I didn't say that. If a mentally ill person is running down the street armed with a knife and attacking people, I want him stopped and detained and sent to the hospital. I don't want anyone dead. But if you attack a police office with a knife, the officer has the right to self defense.

It's not a bad title, it described his crime. If the cops shoot a bank robber that's fleeing, they don't say "cops shot man running away" they call him a bank robber because that's the crime he committed. In this case the crime he committed was illegal camping in the middle of the desert.

As silly as it is, it is better than the cops in NYC that missed the mentally ill person shooting his finger gun at them, and hitting 2 bystanders, FROM 15 FEET AWAY, he was in the middle of the street, they were on the sidewalks.

Me thinks the exams to be a cop needs to include tougher marksmanship and anti asshole testing :)

So the excuse here is... he .... was camping... and he had a knife.. and he slowly started doing as they commanded to come down the hill... and then they saw he had a knife.. so... kill him..... Seems perfectly reasonable..... :error

City cops Albuquerque alone has far exceeded New York cops body count over the last few years. Since this guy was killed in 2010 the cops in Albuquerque have shot and killed 37 other people. To compare that to New York City in 2010 cops there shot and killed 9 people. I think New York cops were up to 25 or 26 in the same time period. New York City is probably 10 times bigger than Albuquerque as far as population, if not bigger.

Clearly something is not right with the cops in NM,,
