Michael Schumacher suffers 'severe head trauma' in skiing accident

(CNN) -- Michael Schumacher, the most successful driver in Formula One history, is recovering in hospital from "severe head trauma" after a skiing accident in the French Alps on Sunday.
The 44-year-old German, who retired from the elite motorsport for the second and final time in 2012, fell and hit his head on a rock, said the director of the Meribel resort where Schumacher was skiing.
Christophe Gernignon-Lecomte initially told CNN affiliate BFM TV that the injury "is not very serious" but the station later reported it to be "severe head trauma," citing police.

i hope it's not too serious... :(

JayAllan 12-29-2013 01:07 PM

Oh shit! My father raced Ferraris. I hope Michael is ok :/

mineistaken 12-29-2013 01:36 PM

"is not very serious" <>"severe head trauma"

Sounds a little contradicting.

in my time doing civilian service an old woman hit her head on a TV. she seemed fine, they took her to the hospital, she winked when she left and said to save dinner for her.

a couple of hours later she was dead.

when it bleeds inside the head, the pressure slowly crushes your brain. unless they drill a hole in your head.

and then you dont know what damage was already done

mineistaken 12-29-2013 01:50 PM

I understand, in her case it was probably said "not very serious" and not "severe head trauma". I mean at the same time. It was probably "not very serious" at first and only after she dies they realizes it was "severe head trauma". Its strange to hear both said at the same time.

just read here that he is supposed to have exactly what i wrote above:

http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/gesel...-a-941199.html

hence the "he seems fine" first

mineistaken 12-29-2013 02:54 PM

Anyway things like that is why I did not try skiing/snowboarding. I do not like to take unnecessary risks with my life even if those things are fun to do.

MaDalton 12-29-2013 03:12 PM

they say he's in a coma and being operated on ... :-/

VinceRuth 12-29-2013 03:48 PM

lucas131 12-29-2013 03:50 PM

JFK 12-29-2013 03:56 PM

speedy recovery :thumbsup

crockett 12-29-2013 04:18 PM

Hope he comes out ok, he was always my favorite F1 driver. I remember watching him when he first started giving Senna a run for his money.

I've been following this since it broke yesterday, I'm not exactly his biggest fan as a driver, but I hope he pulls through on this one. He is a great human being and talented guy, regardless of his driving style and his recklessness at times, he is currently the best that F1 has ever had. I really hope he bounces back.

dyna mo 12-30-2013 06:22 AM

get well shu.

but he certainly was not the best f1 ever had, yes he had the most victories.

the best f1 ever had was aryton senna.

rip senna.

Raymonpow 12-30-2013 06:48 AM

I m praying for him.... i like him a lot... nmy favorite sport personality

Scott McD 12-30-2013 08:10 AM

Some people on here already know he was/is my sporting hero and icon.

Since he retired I haven't had quite the same interest in F1, even though I still watch each race.

Hope you pull through Schumy !!!

I unfortunately don't know too much about Senna, way before my time, I know the guy is idolized and referred to as the best driver ever but times and technology change, especially in F1 so far be it from me to say if he was or wasn't. I purely meant in terms of records, titles and victories, Schumacher is the best we've saw. My personal opinion, regardless of titles and so on is that Lewis Hamilton is one of the best, pure racing drivers that we have ever saw in the sport but that is just me.

The "best" is only someones opinion...

MaDalton 12-30-2013 08:49 AM

Bernd Rosemeyer could have been the best if he didnt die in 1938

Stefan Bellof was said to be the future F1 champion but he died in 1985

different times, different technologies, different opponents - no one can say who's the best until they sit in similar cars and race against each other

by numbers Schumacher is the best until now.

Matyko 12-30-2013 08:50 AM

sad... :(
and its maybe even more sad that i see 100+ pages on FB with 'R.I.P. Schumacher' :(

yes, and that's my opinion.

and if we really boiled it down, the best person ever for f1 would have to be adolph hitler.

we wouldn't have f1 today if not for him.

:)

Its impossible even to have an opinion who is the best. Not only times, technology were different, but competition was different as well. Each year there are different set of competing drivers, nobody knows - maybe Shummacher's competitors were weak and thats why he won, maybe Senna's competition were weak and thats why he won. Way too many variables even begin to guess... Pointless..

Facebook is full of cunts who want to be seen as being "first" to break the news. Even if that news hasn't even happened...

:disgust

f1 drivers have a pretty good idea

Three-time world champion Ayrton Senna has been voted the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time by a unique poll of 217 of his fellow world championship drivers

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80517

MaDalton 12-30-2013 10:36 AM

even if so - whats the point discussing that right now?

Even though drivers know more than us it is still impossible to know, and we all know such polls are influenced by nostalgia, death factor and so on as well.

Different times, different technology, different competition. And even if times were the same - different cars.

Pointless.

because it creates dialague about schu, which was my intent. my comment has given more people an opportunity to come into your thread and share their views on schu.

if you take a moment and think about it, you would be hard-pressed to disagree.

you're welcome.

MaDalton 12-30-2013 11:24 AM

actually i think its a pointless discussion at any time but right now even more

because it always ends up with "agree with me or you are an idiot" and is IMHO not appropriate at the time someone is fighting for his life

just my 2c

dyna mo 12-30-2013 11:31 AM

not appropriate?

Senna was great, I 100% agree...was watching the race when he passed away & I was devastated.
But, I must point out...if you think he's "the best f1 ever had", you should at the VERY least...spell his name correctly.
RIP AYRTON SENNA.

Let's hope we don't have to write the same about Schumacher, as he fights for his life.
