oops, i mean INAPPROPRIATE POSTING |
they say he's in a coma and being operated on ... :-/
|
i'm going to keep posting in this thread, regardless of the hidden rules dictating what the op thinks is appropriate for how people deal with such events.
fact is, people vent their concerns for situations like this in their own unique ways, not unlike the difference between a funeral and a wake. . . . last report received on schu was the docs operated again, relieving pressure and said he is doing slightly better. |

the truly stunning record he holds is his longevity in the sport, not even including his comeback. even though he raced in the safest era of f1, nevertheless, he was quite the agressive driver, maybe the most agressive ever even. so for him to race, what, ~15 years with his driving style, wow really. |
Doctors Start waking Michael Schumacher from Medically Induced Coma:

Today's news has to be seen as a positive. But yeah, still a long long way to go yet, and much more fighting to be done...

I had a close friend go though the same thing Schumi is. He fell off a boat crane over 20 feet onto his head. Was in a coma for over a month, although for the first few weeks there were several times in which doctors didn't think he would survive. After he stabilized, doctors began waking him up. While I was in the ICU with his parents I asked one of the neurologists if they had any idea if my friend would ever be his old self again. The docs told me that they had no way of knowing until he fully came out of the coma and were able to fully test his cognitive abilities.
They told me he could wake up a vegetable, or be perfectly normal. No way to tell until the patient fully come to. It's a miracle my friend survived and came out of the coma without any major damage (he's perfectly fine today) but there's no way to know what kind of life Schumi will have after (if) he emerges from his coma. Such a long road ahead of him, but I still remain positive. |
Thank you for the good news!! (keeping fingers crossed for him)

Schumacher will probably end up a vegetable, makes me think about the futility of life.
He fulfilled his dream to drive in F1, won 7 championships, retired by age 43, with hot supermodel wife, kids. Now he gets to spend the rest of his life as a drooling sack of flesh and bones. What's the point? |

I have about 90% of the races since mid '92 on tape/dvd/hard drive, so you might say I'm a bit of an F1 fan ;) In fact, the second race I ever taped was his maiden win, Spa 1992.
I've never been the hugest fan, (and sorry to MS fans but the "All-Schumi-All-the-Time" early 2000s were easily the most boring period i've seen), but I always respected his greatness. I'll never forget Spain '94 when he finished 2nd even though his car was stuck in 5th gear almost the entire race! Virtually everyone else (except maybe Senna) would have just parked it. As others have said though, at this point it's all about pulling for him to have a good quality of life going forward. |
