Thread Starters....
 

For years when visiting GFY, I would scroll down the "thread titles" column to see if anything jumped out at me as being of interest. These days, with the many worthless trolls & haters that frequent this board, I find myself scrolling down the "thread starter" column and only reading threads by people that I know, respect or whose insight that I have great appreciation for. Anybody else doing this?

Title first, starter second. The starter is usually the determining factor.

I've been doing it pretty much for the past 18-24 months. I do not even read 90-95% of the threads anymore.

Nope, almost never care who starts a thread. It's a matter of the title / subject being interesting. I don't care. When I wanted to see some news about the super-typhoon I just typed super typhoon and clicked whatever links showed up. I think cnn was first so I read about it there not caring who published it.

That's different than avoiding certain things. For example when nikki99 posts pic threads, well I'm not into transsexuals so I generally don't click them.

Let me put it this way: I know who's threads to avoid.

Started that practice YEARS ago....Kinda.

I look for thread titles that interest me then move to the thread starter column to decide if I want to enter. Example:

Thread title: Friday Butt ! (PICS)

Sounds like something I may want to take a peek at.

Moving to the thread starter column: nikki99

Now it's a thread I definitely want to skip.


After I've checked the threads I want, I may go back and browse some of the others depending on how bored I am.

Some people are professional thread starters. It's what they do.

Yup this is exactly the same as what I do, which is why I am in here. Butt godda say, this thread does disappoint. :(

I've participated in enough dialogue over the years to know who is genuinely interested in having a discussion and who is just posting partisan tripe as bait to rile up the other side.

Usually ( and fortunately ) after each presidential election, one side goes off to cry in a corner leaving the other side with no one to bait for a while.

I tend to pull more facts than opinion, feel free to point that out. One gets tired of the constant rebuttle , well that's fox news, they always lie.

I go by the title. Doesn't bother me if I waste a few seconds on bullshit as I usually come here after my important work is done or in between important work so kinda break time anyway so I don't get burned out.

There is also a small handful of people I will not respond to, and will not post in their threads just because I don't like them.
