i've been educated about proper gun safety since i was six by my dad. hell i wasn't even allowed to own laser tag or point dart guns at the tv. too many stupid people purchase guns without learning how to properly use them. education is severly key to owning a firearm.

Maybe some mandatory gun ownership training would be a good idea, but a total ban on guns is..... idiotic. I don't own a gun, and don't forsee ever owning a gun in the future. I do occasionally go to the shooting range, rent a Glock and have fun spending the day shooting at cut-outs of Osama Bin Laden and Yasir Arafat. But, the reason I don't have a gun is that I don't live anywhere where I fear for my safety and I don't see the need for me to own one merely for sport. That being said, I do support the right of other people to own guns.

What do you think would happen if you banned guns in America tomorrow? Law abiding citizens would be disarmed, while criminals would continue to bear arms. The amount of effort expended by the anti-gun left lobbying against guns would be far better served by educating people on how to properly use them. As MCsteve-matrix said "too many stupid people purchase guns without learning how to properly use them."

There are plenty of other countries with high gun ownership, Switzerland, Canada, Israel, etc., but have minimal gun violence.

The solution to addressing gun violence is not by banning them (aren't most illicit drugs illegal? has prohibition solved the drug problem?). The solution is to find ways reduce gun violence within the framework of the constitution.

A few years ago one of the counties in Oregon passed a law that actually required all households to possess at least one firearm. The crime rate dropped significantly after that. I can not find the news story on line but I recall it fairly well.

if you look at the rate of pools/drownings and guns/kills you'll see that the 1:x chance is far greater with the guns that the pools.

You can teach a kid to swim, but you cannot teach a kid to reflect/dodge buttets.

I'm a firm believer that people should have access to whatever weapons the police have. You'll never catch me allowing a human being to posess more power than me. Who says a cop can't go bad? I say if cops are abusing their power, give yourself that power and abuse them back.

As for the link between guns and crime, it's not nearly as simple as either main political party would like you to believe. Many things contribute to crime. Look at our history with racial discrimination. Do you think that we have the ghetto because of the guns? No we have the ghetto because after blacks were liberated they weren't allowed to live anywhere else until way after suburbs were created. This is true, there were housing acts and blacks were only allowed to live in certain areas. So we created these ghettos for the minorities to live in, which increased crime. We give them guns and liberals try to blame the guns for the crime. Obviously europe isn't gonna have this because europe doesn't have the history that we do, nor do they have the system of capitalist greed that lets the rich stomp on the poor to the point where the poor are angry and desperate.

I wish everyone would look at issues and not just take the side of what their political party believes. There's no such thing as a black and white issue. Think for yourself and use logic, not what rush limbaugh tells you every day.
