PSA : 27inch iMac owners, check for recall.

I've been having some horrible noises coming from my 27inch imac lately, and last week it failed to boot on me, and just this weekend I got an email from Apple :)

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/10/20/hard-...-of-1tb-imacs/

You can check if your HD is cleared for replacement here.
http://www.apple.com/support/imac-ha...0-192397&sr=em

Happy to get this email... fucking grinding sound has been driving me nuts.

Just thought I'd share this here.
:thumbsup:thumbsup

I will have to check my old ladys iMac. Not sure what size it is.

2MuchMark 10-23-2012 10:15 PM

Thanks for the tip, machinegunkelly! I checked it and sure enough my machine has a potential bad hard disk.

Apple Haters : You lose. Tell me you would ever get this kind of service from your local clone store. And before you blame Apple, don't. It's a Segate product that is defective, not an Apple product.

I'm going to go have sex with an Apple right now.

Dirty F 10-23-2012 10:23 PM

Look how the fanboys are already crying about Apple haters while nobody is even saying a thing. Pathetiiiic

Please go through and let us all know what parts Apple itself actually builds in its own factory.

- Apple has great service.
- What broke is not really an apple product.

The arguments you guys come up with... :1orglaugh:Oh crap

I'm not gonna get involved in the trolling, but I've never had any other company email me up a year after warantee expires offering to fix something free for me.

I call that great service.

You guys call me an Apple fanboy as I'm sitting here posting on GFY from my PC, and ordering a new nVidia GTX-660Ti videocard at the same time. That card isnt for an Apple product.

Nice video card, I have a few 550s and 1 660 and the 660 is way faster when rendering video.

This should be good!

Actually George, even *I* am impressed. Check this out:

- I went to Apple's website, found the "Segate HD replacement program" and entered by Serial number (found by clicking the Apple logo then "about this mac").

- I was instantly told that my machine qualifies.

- I had questions so I followed the support link (1 click) I entered my phone number onto the website and Apple called me within 30 seconds. Wow!

- I asked if instead of taking the machine to a store, if they could just ship a new hard disk to me and let me swap it myself. They said YES.

- I asked if it is a new hard disk or a refurbished hard disk and they said NEW, with a 5 year warranty.

So now get this. They are shipping the new HD to me, just like that. I don't need to send the old HD back. The entire experience was less than 5 minutes. I was so happy I ordered a solid state Hard Disk as well. Since I have to open it up I'm going to turbo-charge it.

APPLE ROCKS!

Amaaaaazing! They sold you a bad HD and now give you a new one in return! I never heard of such a thing before! This truly is a special service by Apple!
From now on no more cheap pc's! I'm gonna pay twice as much for my stuff!
God, this story brought tears to my eyes!

You saw my thread where i bought an Apple screen without the Apple logo for 350 dollars or something?
You paid 750 more. Why?

I like nice things?

Saw the thread yes.
how many dead pixels did you have again?

Apple's not as over priced as people think... if the quality wasn't there, I'd have bought something else.

( you know I love ya Frank!, just don't get why people hate on Apple so bad )

I was a PC guy for years ( 20 ) and I'll never look back.

I don't like fucking with things, and expect them to work.
My PC's , no matter how often I bought, never fucking worked properly.

5 years now, 2 imacs, 2 mac minis and only 1 problem, which is now being fixed for free, off warrantee.

Dirty F 10-24-2012 01:36 PM

I don't hate Apple. Not at all. I'm typing this on my Iphone. I hate fanboys.

BareBacked 10-24-2012 01:37 PM

did you name yourself after the rapper ?

Dirty F 10-24-2012 01:40 PM

Oh the dead pixels are basically non visible. You can pay 50 bucks more and have a zero dead pixel guarantee. Still 600 cheapet than the same screen with an Apple logo.
See, that's what bothers me about the fanboys. How can you possibly say it's not that overpriced? Any sane person can see it's terribly overpriced.

Dirty F 10-24-2012 01:41 PM

Can't you just buy your Apple stuff and admit they are not some kind of god? Do that and you will notice there will way less "haters".

It's warranty bloke :winkwink:

If you actually think Apple is paying this bill, you're sniffing the best fairy dust Donald Duck has ever made.

Seagate will be getting their rim slammed until it bleeds over this. No way Apple is footing one cent out of the bill for this.

Which is fair enough, however you are slipping your tongue down the trousers of Apple when it is Seagate who is replacing your HDD . :thumbsup

Gaming or video editing? Would like to compare benchmark notes with you on video editing if that's what you are doing.

The 660 took a 3 min. task and turned it into a 1 min. task for me.

Price is relative..

It's only over priced if I feel I paid too much.
Which I don't..

I just got tired of having to build a good machine, and all the problems that come with winblows.

Possibly... honestly it was vista that pushed me to the "dark side"

I find window 7 to be good and stable, but after using osx for 5 years now.. i find windows very clunky and counter intuitive

Also, for me as a designer/developr ot just makes seNce to have one machine that can run all OS's

I'm sure it's going to blow away the 9800GT that it's replacing. I've had that card forever and would still be using it if the fan hadnt stopped working, allowing the card to overheat and lock up my PC a few times.

Since the new videocard will drive 4 monitors, I'm actually replacing two videocards with it. I'll be yanking out the 9600GT I'm on now and then I'll have all three monitors going again.

God, this story brought tears to my eyes!

Lol... you are so stubborn. You really don't understand at all.

I bought this computer almost 4 years ago, from Apple.
Apple told me today that the HD COULD fail, and offered a free replacement.

What don't you understand?

- They are being pro-active.
- They are giving amazing support and care for their customers
- They are telling me BEFORE my hard disk dies.

You go right on ahead buying shitty clones, fight it to run windoze and deal with the poorly written drivers, pop-ups, memory leaks and malware every day, and pat yourself on the back because you think you saved a few bucks. I and every other Mac owner will keep right on being productive on computers that work properly and backed by a company that gives a shit, thank you very much.

They probably are. I used to sell computers a long time ago and manufacturers like Seagate honoured their warranties without problems. If a customer brought a machine in with a bad HD we swapped it for a new one, sent the old one back to the distributor, and received a new one soon afterwards.

Bingo! Our accounting Mac has Parallels to run both OS and Windows 7. It does it perfectly too, and even better, it runs both at the same time. Who would have guessed that running Windows inside of a window on another operating system would work, let alone work so well?

Anyway, sorry haters. Trash us Mac users all you want. You're the ones who are losing out, not us.

Mark, i have a perfectly fine computer that's most likely faster than your Imac and way cheaper. I have the same screen as you do and i paid 650 less. I have an OS that works fast as hell and never crashes. Malware? Wtf are you talking about man?
You Apple freaks scare me really. What kind of fantasy world do you people live in??
