My computers are boring boxes, but they are machines that run like beasts. My most expensive machine was $2000 and it is a true workhorse. My others were all under $1000 and they all work great.

Not me. I have a PC on my desk that we use for testing. I do my work on my Macs though. Just more intuitive. I was a die-hard PC user until about 4 years ago. Bought a Mac out of "necessity", and loved it.

actually you got the same display panel, which is basically the same pixel board, nothing else.

You can buy all sorts of parts used to build Apple products, it doesn't mean you have the "same product"

Anyway, the reason I enjoy my mac is I really have ZERO desire to upgrade, or fuss around with anything, and I don't mind paying a premium for that service, Apple knows this and charges accordingly.

I don't see how that makes them evil, they offer a luxury product, at a premium and seems to me that they're not having any difficulty selling their product.

Sure, it's just a PC inside, just like a lexus is just a toyota.

Toyota makes many cars that go faster, or that are more "upgradable" than a lexus, but they understand that some people simply don't care, and just want a nice comfy car to drive and will pay a premium for essentially the same product with a nicer experience attached.

I'm happy sitting infront of this 20 hours a day, and was more than happy to shell out for it.

and once an upgrade comes along that's worth the upgrade, I'll gladly sell this for 70% of what I paid for it and do it all over again.

I you buy the cheap and low end hardware apple will appear to be very expensive.
If you buy medium or higher end products the cost is about the same..
What makes a difference in the end is your computer is build by the company who made the OS, you do not need to fuck around with drivers, conflicting hardware etc etc
If something doesn't work you have 1 company to go to.. Not Microsoft that sends you to Logitech that send you I the next company who ask you to unplug this, reset that etc
And on top of this everything syncs and works smooth between the iPhone , iPad and computers

Of course it's fun to geek around but if your argument is the cost then you do not value your own time very high..

The only problem with an os upgrade I had last year was with using dual iMacs as an extended desktop. I had to upgrade both machines in order to continue to use that mode - took a 5 minute phone call to Apple to find that out, AND, Apple gave me the second OS upgrade FOR FREE. me=happy!

Think again.... There is a reason why Microsoft is copying apple now... We both know it, there's now reason to pretend..
