WTF w Playboy Webmasters?
 

Is the program discontinued? There no banners, link codes - nothing left and my stats show no traffic...

Got this email from them YESTERDAY:

Manwin killed all the former Playboy niche sites (Playboys Busty Babes, Fresh Faces, etc) ... focusing only on PlayboyPlus and Playboy.tv .. apparently they took down the servers without even telling their affiliate managers ... at least that's the story I got. They are "working on" some kind of forwarding solution.

You'd think that would have been figured out *before* they took down the servers .. but what the hell do I know?

It probably does make business sense if they're doing it, but you'd need to be on their side of the table to see why :2 cents:

That totally sucks as the women of playboy etc. etc. were converting good + a redirect to pbplus would seem to be an obvious thing to do.

Would be nice to get an official response on this so we know what to do with our links

Oh .. I do see why .. and support why ... totally get it .. and I was expecting it ... but to just take everything down .. with no forwarding plan .. and worse .. no warning .. that's just not right .. and speaks volumes about at least what upper Manwin management thinks about their affiliate network ... the affiliate managers I deal with directly seem just as shocked by this as I am ... and like I've said, they been great on what they've been directly able to do for me .. but I guess when the big boys take their ball and go home, there's not a whole lot the rest of us can play with.

I agree ... those sites were still converting for me pretty well too ... considering none of them had been updated since February. I don't see why they just couldn't let them be feeder sites to PB Plus.

Yes I know .. I've been dealing with Sean .. he's fighting the good fight.

They just kill two of my TGPs using only their playboygirls.com galleries.

Sean is active but never on WE, so no solutions until monday and no new HG available to replace the previous ones.

That sucks. Hopefully I will use my Tribute to Playmates galleries to replace all the HG and will never add anymore MANWIN HG on my TGPs.

And depending on the answer we will get on monday I may remove the current HG I use for their programs : Babes.com, Twistys, Femjoy, ...

The word I got was don't expect the hosteds to come back (not official though so I guess there's some hope) ... which kills 90% of current Playboy marketing .. built over ten years. The sad part was they didn't have to kill them .. just change a few TGP graphics ... boom ... a whole library of PlayboyPlus promo already in place.

It really seems to me that very little thought was given to this.

We've been promised new Playboy promos for months .. and all we got was a few banners .. and Flash banners at that .. just as the industry is abandoning Flash in droves .. (but don't get me started on that one .. that's a whole different thread)

Such as waste .. and total disregard to affiliates' time and efforts.

Has Playboy's Program ever been efficiently operated? So long as I can remember, it has always been a mess, whether it was under Adult.com, Reality Cash, and every other iteration of it. The only other sites I can think of that I have had to make significant changes as often as Playboy's program has been Yurizan Beltran's and Sandee Westgate's -- though there were probably others.

In the end, there's just easier programs to work with that actually think things through before they act on changes. Medium Pimpin and Blazing Bucks come to mind, off top of my head. Which, btw, are both run by a couple of the most honest people in this business.

Manwin's management of Playboy, while atrocious in terms of affiliates, is really just more of the same when it comes to Playboy. There's simply far better managed sites out there to promote. ;)

It's hanging in there for me .. and I'm glad the links finally go somewhere .. still .. I don't see why they had to kill the hosted galleries.

The Conspiracy Theorists will say it's to knock affiliates sites down in the SERPS, so as Playboy can move up. Though perhaps sales from the hosted galleries were causing too many chargebacks. We may never know, but I'm sure they had a good reason :2 cents:

I could not tell you the last time I had a Playboy chargeback. The Conspiracy Theorists may be right about this one.

Killing the FHGs was a scummy, needless move. Seems to take them forever to redirect links, if they have any intention of ever doing so.

In all fairness, I need to say all my links, hosted and otherwise, are now forwarding to a legitimate landing page .. but you are correct .. killing the FHGs was a totally needless move.

Playboy had been a mess when they moved to NATS. And just right when they are slowly getting their shit straight, what happens? There is a new mess and it's even worst.

Unless you have a membership to the main site, the program is forgettable. Not to mention that it's stupid to drop a more than ten year old brand and popular features like the weekly and monthly Coeds.

I really cross my fingers that the new management knows what they do because at the moment, I don't see a lot of good signs.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Playboy's program has never been properly managed and has always been poorly maintained. The closest it may have gotten to respectability was back when Vendzilla was involved, but even that is debatable when compared to how other programs were run, on far lesser financial resources than what Playboy could have invested.

And now, even under new management, it seems to be just more issues surrounding that program.

Frankly, I even think the redesign of the tour pages is extremely lackluster compared to what one thinks of Playboy and the image it has (had) as a "lifestyle".

I personally think this resembles a typical blog style, along the lines of a $59 non-exclusive Wordpress blog theme. Certainly not what I would envision as being representative of what was once a prestigious brand name. Of course, aesthetics are subjective so you cannot expect a design to appeal to everyone. I just think this looks less than stellar considering the brand involved.

Playboy Plus converts very well, recent ratios are good (1 in 455), sales are the priority for me

They killed it with the Coeds weekly & monthly features. Rebranded to Playboy Plus.

ah, lame. so does Playboy Plus have all the mag archives? Or they just cut Cyberclub from the affiliate program?
