CAPTCHAS suck. Check out FaceTuring in Strongbox 5.0

Bryan, TX - June 13 2012 - BetterCGI.com announced Wednesday that it will be releasing the new 5.0 version of the popular Strongbox web site security software, along with a new pricing model. The company has announced that webmasters can get the new version at the old lower price by pre-ordering prior to the July 1st launch.

The Strongbox system defends web businesses from brute force attacks, stolen or shared passwords, and other threats. Ray Morris, CEO of BetterCGI, explained: "Strongbox 5.0 has a lot of new features to enhance security, and convenience while complementing your site’s appearance. For example the new FaceTuring, a revolutionary new approach that avoids the frustration of CAPTCHAS.”

Rather than force users to decipher distorted difficult to read text, FaceTuring has the user simply do what humans have done instinctively for millions of years - spot a pretty face. Users simply click on the correct faces, which is ideal for touch screen interactions. Once a user has logged in successfully once, they can be exempt from any future human test at all, a true “one click” log in, Morris said.

In order to support the continual development and improvement, the pricing model had to be updated, said Morris. “To give webmasters great value, we’ve set aside this two week pre-order period so that webmasters can protect their web sites with the latest technology while still taking advantage of historically low pricing. Orders after that date will be at the new price of $189 setup and $99 per year.”

"With the upcoming upgrade to Version 5, exclusive features like secure cross-site linking and FaceTuring will only enhance the sense of security that comes with securing your login, and protecting yourself against brute force attacks, site rippers with stolen passwords, and other issues that slow your site down and cost you money."

Morris repeated that “to take advantage of all of this new technology at the low prices webmasters are used to, they must pre-order by the July 1st launch date by visiting http://bettercgi.com/sb5/ .”

RMEE Inc is a well known web security company headquartered in Bryan, TX. Since 1997 RMEE has protected many of the most well known sites with their Strongbox, Throttlebox, and Clonebox products.

How many pics of faces do you have in the database? isn't that obviously a finite number? and so it actually makes it MUCH easier to crack than infinite number of combinations that can be generated using random letters, their positions, angles, etc?

ShoeBox 06-14-2012 01:54 PM

de-captcher.info , and everything is always bottable

stever 06-14-2012 01:55 PM

some ppl are just too dumb to know which are female/male

i think text is still easier

Freaky_Akula 06-14-2012 01:56 PM

MrCain 06-14-2012 01:58 PM

Can webmasters use their own pictures and categories? Like "spot the negro" on IR sites or "click the dick" on gay sites.

BIGTYMER 06-14-2012 02:01 PM

I'd rather clicks pics than decode a text.

So far, every test subject has been 100% successful - even when standing twelve feet away from the screen.

Yes, you can use your own images. We can extract faces from your pictures or videos, at no extra charge in some cases. Faces are best - humans are really, really good at faces. Obviously if it was racist, in an offensive way, we wouldn't be involved in that.

BNMedia 06-14-2012 02:14 PM

Looks interesting. What's the pre-order upgrade price?
I can't see it on the order form unless I missed it!?

VladS 06-14-2012 02:19 PM

Hmm, not sure about that. Easier, but still a pain to deal with. Why don't you let them try to login without any captcha or face recognition or whatever and only if they fail to login for X amount of times, pop up the human tests?

Perhaps you added this already, no clue, last StrongBox we worked with didn't have it, but it was an older version.

You're the expert in this field and i might have failed to take all aspects into consideration, so i'm sure you have a reason if you're not doing it that way, if so, do enlighten me.

MrCain 06-14-2012 02:22 PM

Wasn't meant to be offensive. You could use it on an IR cuckolding site and make it "spot the cuck" or "spot the Bull".

NaughtyRob 06-14-2012 02:22 PM

Oh shit another tranny test!

That's a brilliant idea. So brilliant that:

VladS 06-14-2012 02:37 PM

It was written in the PR as well, my bad, haven't read that entirely.

DamianJ 06-14-2012 02:38 PM

Cool, chat roulette have been using that for ages. Nice to see another use for it.

There are 28 letters in the alphabet. There are 5 billion faces. So faces are roughly 179,000,000 times harder to crack.

The faces are randomly rotated and cropped, so just as one letter can be many images, so too can one face. There are just a LOT more faces to choose from than there are letters.

NookieCookie 06-14-2012 03:13 PM

Great Idea - Will check it out.

Mine has only 26 damnit

And I have never seen a captcha displaying just 1 letter, normally is it letters and words making it (26 + 10) 36 per char, so a 5 char long captcha is 36^5 ;)

Congrats on the launch though, it is looking great !

The president added two new letters to use in the names of the 58th and 59th states, the ones he hadn't visited yet. ;)

FaceTuring doesn't have just one face, just as a captcha doesn't have one letter, so that's the same either way and you're left with the fact that there are a lot more faces than there are letters.

Come to think of it, I think I've seen ñ and æ in recaptcha. :; BTW you can also use our recaptcha plugin in Strongbox 5.0 though I prefer mouse only - they may be surfing with one hand busy.

Ah, so you have ſ and arguably IJ. Without Æ, how do you type Æneas Mackay, former prime minister of your country?

pornmasta 06-14-2012 04:54 PM

what is a captcha ?

(i know the answer, but not the strongbox team)

mafia_man 06-14-2012 05:45 PM

I'm French. What the fuck am I supposed to click?

Everyone knows what to do with a captcha. You're going to translate the command into every language your user-base uses.

Good idea. We'll add support for major languages. CCBill, for example, is available in nine languages. I only speak two, so I'd appreciate any translations people would post. The sentence is "click on the four pictures of WOMEN". (Webmasters choose the word MEN instead.)
