Twitter Do you Love / Hate or Ignore it?

Just set it up:

http://twitter.com/#!/MaxCandyCom

But not really sure if its worth the trouble?

Do you guys use it?

Scott McD 10-01-2011 09:18 AM

Never used it.

Or Facebook...

u-Bob 10-01-2011 09:19 AM

I use it to get sites indexed, hijack trends and spread rumors,...

blackmonsters 10-01-2011 09:39 AM

I never tried it.

I read some postings on it before and was not interested in what was being said,
so I never went back.

:1orglaugh

Chosen 10-01-2011 09:41 AM

Never used it personally... :pimp

MaxCandy 10-02-2011 03:48 AM

allot of big twitter fans here

jimmycooper 10-02-2011 04:26 AM

I personally can't stand it but I tolerate it because it makes it easier for my lazy cunt traffic to share my compelling text and expertly curated selection of content.
My theory is that the #1 reason social media has grown to play the large role it currently does in both business and social networking is that the medium appeals to the basic(/pathetic) human desire of 'being popular'. If that's not the case, then why do the most successful websites/services publicly list the # of friends/followers for each user?
About 10 days ago I decided to test the theory and placed an image with the text 'Be Popular' right next to the Twitter symbol. Sure enough, I've seen a dramatic increase in the # of unsolicited mentions. Humans sure are funny little creatures. Anyway, here it is.

Max - What program do I join to promote your work ? And also what's the best program to use for promoting Dorcel? It doesn't appear as if he has an affiliate program set up.

CaptainHowdy 10-02-2011 04:38 AM

I can easily pretend that I either use it or don't, what's the point??

Same deal. I set up Twitter profiles for my 'Brand names' to avoid others doing so, but do not tweet or login...

Likewise I despise FB with a vengeance...

Casanova 10-02-2011 05:17 AM

I personally despise fb as its a waste of time. Twitter sometimes but not much

Yeah, a program for affiliates to promote the site. I ll look into it. The Inglorious Bitches trailer looks great!

Will you guys be doing screenings ? Take it on tour! NYC, Montreal, LA, and SF.

In NYC, you could conceivably screen it for One Leg Up and/or School Of Sex. Maybe do it in conjunction with an Inglorious Bitch themed One Leg Up 'eat-in' soiree. Have them charge $300 per ticket for member couples instead of the usual $200 so you guys get a cut, and also sell branded merchandise at the parties.I had an OLU membership a few years ago and if the parties are similar to what they were then, it would be a perfect fit.

Yeah going to Mipcom in Cannes tomorrow, will pass on these other ideas. thanks

Barry-xlovecam 10-02-2011 08:32 AM

We don't use it effectively -- I haven't had time to address the issue and develop an effective strategy (looks-like-spam-o-rama).

Anyone with good social-networking experience we might have a paid position for you ...

Cool. Have fun!

There's definitely crossover potential, particularly amongst art/fashion/film targets. Considering that I've seen screenings of Baise Moi and Belle du Jour at Village Cinema and the Trailer for a Remake of Gore Vidal's Caligula at the Whitney, it's really not much of a leap.

I use twitter all day, every day. I've gathered 2000+ followers (without bots or mass following) and I engage my followers. Most people/companies refuse to do this and just spam everyone with their services. This is why most people don't like twitter. They're absolutely cluless about how to use it effectively. I've successfully used twitter to sell music to clients and bring business to my recording studio in Northern California. In fact, my understanding of social media, in general, is what helped land me my current position with Fleshlight!

Tofu 10-02-2011 10:41 AM

BTW, the 2000 follower accept is my OTHER account (not the one I just started, in my sig.

for some reason, adult webmaster sponsors twitter accounts are dead..

they have at most 100 followers when in their programs they have like 5000 webmasters..

makes no sense.. really.

Quoted for truth.

That's exactly right. The sort of people that make jokes about 'why would I want to know what you had for lunch LOL' as their argument that twitter is shit.

It's hilarious watching them fuck up social media.

Are you saying that it's categorically impossible for someone to understand best practices for Twitter and other social media, but still not like them? If so, I think we'll have to agree to disagree.

It depends what *you* are interested in Max.

For example, I think twitter.com/meaderic is awesome. He's a magician, and just posts really interesting links to things.

There are some great photographers on twitter, maybe start there?

http://wefollow.com/twitter/photography

Which app are you using?

There are a variety of applications that let you consume/tweet with ease.

I wondered which app you were using to read twitter.

The fact you didn't know there were any is probably why you are struggling to make sense of it. :)

Get a twitter app. I like echofon on the iPhone, and the official twitter app on OSX.

MaxCandy 10-03-2011 06:21 AM

i have Twitter on my iphone is that what you mean?

I tweet for Porn.com (@worldsbestporn)
PR_Chi tweets for PimpRoll (@pimprollxxx)
We're following you now!

Social media is finicky but once you get used to it, it's a GREAT way to connect with your clientele. Initially it seemed like a gigantic popularity contest (per previous comments) but then you realize it's about communication.

Twitter is the ultimate common ground for you, me, and celebrity. It lets people know their favorite companies are run by actual people who they can communicate with. :)

...Or they're to follow the innumerable pornbots so they can surf on the lo. :P

Yes. That is called an APP. Something other than twitter.com that you use to read the content of who you follow.

I was just checking you weren't just going to twitter.com as that is a fairly horrid experience.

Did you like the photographers link? Anything there you saw that was interesting to you?

Get the big pornstars to follow you.
Get them to RT their scene tweets you put out.
Profit.

Give people links they want. Profit.

80% of your tweets should be non-spammy.

Upload every day pics of your life to yfrog, link to news articles, boast and bitch about life. Be human. The *real* followers will start coming.

Captain Kawaii 10-03-2011 08:14 AM

We use it as people above have suggested. Give them interesting links, cool pics or something related and have the content next to it. I also send a lot of photo galleries and people seem to enjoy and sign up...We also have a press release account for new releases which sites can add to their site and get latest japan porn news...

I hate the "what I'm cooking now" crap, I think Jimmy is right about his test - people want to be popular, part of the hep crowd. lol.

Eugenum 10-03-2011 08:38 AM

Useless for me.
