uno 07-30-2011 11:31 AM

Absolutely.

CurrentlySober 07-30-2011 11:35 AM

Its OK... But as much as I would genuinely LOVE too...

I cant get into it to the same degree as others appear too...

Paul&John 07-30-2011 11:36 AM

It was a pretty decent show

u-Bob 07-30-2011 11:37 AM

it's great!

Lichen 07-30-2011 11:38 AM

Best show all time.

bronco67 07-30-2011 11:41 AM

Having watched The Wire will make you a more awesome person.

I have to admit it will seem slow at first, but be patient and you'll be rewarded with one of the best TV shows ever.

anexsia 07-30-2011 11:53 AM

It's great, you can even get a real life version of the show just going to Baltimore's lovely corners.

Agent 488 07-30-2011 12:00 PM

show was over my head. prefer garfield or something.

Cherry7 07-30-2011 12:07 PM

Does the Pope shit in the woods?

kane 07-30-2011 12:07 PM

You have to be a little patient. Give it 3-5 episodes and you will be hooked. IMO it is one of the best series ever made right up there with The Sopranos and Breaking Bad

I am a big fan of Breaking Bad and also The Sopranos. The Wire is a better series, by far, simply because every single episode was great and had a real purpose.

The Sopranos, a lot of episodes seemed to be thrown together with little purpose. Breaking Bad has a few episodes like that as well, but not as many.

The Wire is probably the best overall series I've ever seen.

You don't realize how brilliant those "slow" first episodes are until later. You're watching a major crime case develop and come together, but its seems tedious at first.

I think the Sopranos was pretty overrated. While some would call it deep, I thought it was pretty aimless, with long stretches of episodes with NOTHING happening.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 07-30-2011 12:38 PM

100% yes. It is in the top five television shows ever, and it takes a LOT for me to say that because I am kind of a TV hater.

GTS Mark 07-30-2011 12:40 PM

Yeah absolutely amazing show! You will get hooked quick

Poindexterity 07-30-2011 12:54 PM

worth watching three or four times.

Wizzo 07-30-2011 01:21 PM

One of my all time favorite series for sure! :pimp

epitome 07-30-2011 01:44 PM

Nah, its not remotely realistic.

J/K its one of the lost legit shows ever to be made.

seeandsee 07-30-2011 01:53 PM

i like GARY UNMARRIED :d

Socks 07-30-2011 02:27 PM

I'm still going through season 6 of the Care Bears.

V_RocKs 07-30-2011 02:31 PM

Very worthwhile

I would agree with that. I know some of the Sopranos stuff was done kind of against David Chase's will. The wanted him to do an extra season before ending the show so that they could syndicate it and that season really bogged it down.

The Wire is flat out amazing, lean and perfect.

100% correct. When you are watching those first few episodes it may seem like not much is happening and it might even be a little confusing, but they are laying the foundation upon which they build greatness. Later on it all makes sense and comes together brilliantly.

Coup 07-30-2011 04:31 PM

Its worth watching if you're into amazingly well done television

crockett 07-30-2011 04:40 PM

yes, it was a very good series.

Horny Dude 07-30-2011 10:13 PM

Best show out their. I could easily start the show over and watch every episode.

Omar was bad ass.

Antonio 07-31-2011 05:38 AM

it sucked big time - total waste of time

nah, it is fucking awesome

sojproductions 07-31-2011 05:48 AM

i couldnt get past the first 2 episodes, didn't grab me, im in a minority by the sounds of it tho!

Bull Smoke 07-31-2011 06:17 AM

Right up there with Sopranos as one of the greatest TV series ever.

buildingfutures 07-31-2011 06:33 AM

I just watched the first 2 episodes a while ago aswell. Didn't grab me yet, but by the sound of it I need to keep going.

Read the posts by myself and Kane in this thread, and you'll see what happened with your Wire experience.

To sum up, you really need to give it a chance. It's a slow builder.

AmeliaG 07-31-2011 08:49 AM

The Sopranos was innovative for its time, but I know a lot of times I would find a story thread in an episode all suspenseful and, by the next episode, The Sopranos would be on to something else, never to return to the story which was happening before.

The Wire, by contrast, comes together really elegantly by the end of each season. I find that these long form cable drams tend to take around 4 episodes to fully get up to speed. I certainly thought, with season 2 of The Wire, that I wouldn't find dock workers remotely as interesting as cops and drug dealers, but they made it work. The Wire is television so good that it makes most other TV pale by comparison.

candyflip 08-02-2011 06:15 PM

I just worked on a movie with two people who had worked on The Wire.

The one girl's dad was one of the writers of the show.

seeric 08-02-2011 06:17 PM

Yes, it's a great series. One of my all time favorites. The writers are excellent.

mineistaken 08-02-2011 06:22 PM

imho the best tv series ever. Better than Oz or Sopranos

fris 08-03-2011 08:45 AM

Wait until you get to the McNulty/Bunk crime scene investigation a few episodes in --- you'll be hooked.

I think i figured out why it takes a few episodes, you don't really see omar and lester freamon until then, and those characters add so much that you wont be able to get enough. There are too many good characters in this show.. they could have done spin offs with any of these story lines (each season usually shows the city from about 3 or 4 perspectives along with the cops side of things)

MrFeenix 08-03-2011 01:55 PM

Best show ever!

Deej 08-03-2011 01:55 PM

most definitely!

I loved the Season 4 Mayoral race -- suprisingly.

Again, first time watchers should not watch the first couple of episodes and think "so this is all there is..." There's so much more. I'll have sex with The Wire and jizz on its neck.

fris 08-14-2011 12:13 PM

finished the first 3 seasons, on season 4 now ;)

Jakez 08-14-2011 12:52 PM

Best show ever made.
