Make china pay the same federally mandated minimum wage we require. Make china figure in the same 15% FICA taxes on payroll. Make chinese factories pay for and comply with the same environmental impact studies and requirements of our own factories. Make chinese employers follow the same overtime laws, the same benefit packages, the same OSHA laws ???.

Suddenly the playing field is level.

For US consumers to revel in lower prices based on standards we deem unacceptable on our own land is hard to comprehend. The only explanation is we value nature and human beings that aren't American as beneath us. We will save money by ignoring the minimum standards we require of ourselves.

a)cheap importation of goods
b)subsidizing exportation of factories overseas to make goods for slave wages which are then exported back to the U.S.

i find this story really amazing because as far as chinese goods are concerned, so far china has exported toxic lead contaminated toys and drywall to the u.s. causing millions of dollars in damages, sickness etc.

so they are trusting these people to build a bridge that cars actually go over :1orglaugh

Home Depot is in trouble for using foreign products for government contracted jobs. This job, and many others, seem to be government contracted jobs as well and clearly are using foreign constructed products.

As far as companies fucking up and doing major damage to people and property, that's been going on since business began, in any country. No administration in the last 20 years has cared about public safety enough to beef up the USITC to stop these products from entering the U.S. in the first place. just sayin :winkwink:

i have friends that work for US companies that have their products manufactured in china because of the cheap labor and non existent EPA that lets factories run as polluted and unsafe as they want..

they tell me they have been in factories that are miles long and spit out products at a price that the US factories could only dream about competing with..

and you know what.. this is all being done with the blessing of the US govt..

someday our future sons and daughters will look back on what our govt has done in terms of building china into the empire it is and will become and curse our generation for stupidity..

allowing the govt and large corporations to act without impunity for the sake of greed will ultimately be the downfall of our status as the greatest nation in history..
