The coward gives up easily and says "if you can't beat them, join them"

but there is another way:

Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.
Do not give in to evil but proceed ever more boldly against it

Couldn't be more relevant for me, today of all days!

and just like Einstein said, everything is relative... it all depends on what you were fighting originally

it's not just about war. 'Malis' literally means 'bad things', so depending on the context it could mean:

Don't let setbacks discourage you.
Don't give in to evil....
Don't give up because someone tells you the fight is over.
....

Well, let's take the .xxx tld for example. Some prefer to post on gfy saying resistance is futile, others keep fighting...

DamianJ 03-10-2011 07:30 AM

is this about Paul Markham taking money from piracy to supplement his immigrant welfare money?

Why does everyone quote Einstein all the time? The guy was a theoretical physicist not a fucking master genius of all things intelligent. Quote a writer instead sometime, at least it gives people the impression that you have read something other than a famous quotes site. ;)

I believe 100% that .XXX is a wrap, deals made behind closed doors some time ago.

I'm obviously not an attorney or I'd be there fighting for us tooth and nail, but it is disappointing that after all this time no ground has been gained and we're in the same place today as we were when it was first introduced. You would *think* that if those fighting for us was worth their salt, they would have been able to find a way to derail this.

There is too much money involved and I don't trust anyone speaking on behalf of the industry.

If by fighting you mean sending letters and tweets, good luck with that. I wrote every time I was asked to send a letter and have tweeted several times. Nothing we have done has helped in any manner.

If our own governments will lie to us about WMDs and reasons we go to war, I can't have much faith in people who represent the porn industry, which may be the most incestuous and dysfunctional industry I've ever encountered.

But that's just my opinion and I hope I'm 100% wrong about all of this. We'll see in a week or two.

Summed up nicely. :thumbsup

You have to pick and choose your battles. Not all of them are worth fighting.
:2 cents:

From TheRegister:
"Resistance to .xxx has been so fierce, from Christian groups as well as the porn business, that ICANN has had to create entirely new appeal and review mechanisms for processing the application."

I agree the beast is still alive and I agree that it is very likely that .xxx will pass this time. But the fact that it already took this long, the fact that the ICM even had to resort to openly bribing the ICANN director, the fact that the ICM found it necessary to get the comment period shortened,... all are a direct result of the nonstop-noise-making efforts of the many individuals in this industry.

I admit that sending a single email or a single tweet may seem useless, but the total impact of all those messages has been that we have at least been able to delay the .xxx.

Every comment period, there were people on GFY posting that sending an email would be useless and that everything was a done deal... Obviously they were wrong... Whether it be lazyness and apathy (The irony is that writing their GFY posts probably took just as much effort as an email to ICANN would have taken) or a deliberate attempt to sabotage the anti-.xxx efforts (Taking away the enemy's will to fight...)... It doesn't matter... They were wrong... .Xxx is still not here.

The fight is not over until it's over.

davecummings 03-10-2011 08:33 AM

Communicating our lack of support for .xxx to ICANN (yes, once again) is one time that personal opinions , versus facts, might count!

LAJ 03-10-2011 09:25 AM

I'm not giving up fighting it or showing my disdain to those who support it.

I am thinking though that the back room deals run deeper than most of us could imagine.

that's a cool quote
