I think that those people who post to GFY trying to hide their businesses are truly cowards - esp when they take puck shots at others.

If people behave like adults I have no problem with them, anon or not. You are somewhat biased in the fact that your business cannot be harmed by GFY antics. Not everyone has that luxury.

What makes someone anonymous? In case you haven't noticed, GFY and basically every webmaster board have a number of assholes waiting to copy what other people are doing well with. If someone doesn't have a webmaster program and only runs sites directed at surfers, what's the point of showing everyone what you're doing? We all know one case where one "anonymous" poster didn't want to post his url, and someone did anyway. He has the right to tell people what he's doing is none of their business. I wouldn't say he's a coward, I'd say he's smart. Not everyone's business revolves around our sextracker ranking.

Sleazy, I think the reason some pple don't leave a sig in their posts (and why I haven't done it) is because the popularity of this board is not reserved to legitimate adult webamsters who come here to do business. There are plenty of folks who come here to do NOTHING but start shit, regardless if they have a sig or not... how many times have you seen someone here with a popular program in their sig just make a total ass of themselves, or say shit JUST to defame or put someone's business down?

I've seen folks taget a legitimate program and fabricate lies about them just because they don't like an opinion or attitude presented on this board by one of the company's representatives. And with all the lame, meaningless, or inflamitory posts started even by pple WITH sigs, it's hard to reply to anything here without having a stong opinion one way or another.

Let's face it... the board's name is "GO FUCK YOURSELF". I think that most pple's professionalism is left at the door as soon as they see the title. Then just read 90% of the threads, and the responses left in them and you can almost all but forget about coming here to conduct any SERIOUS business anyway.

As in any business, real deals are made in private. Behind closed doors. Why should somone without a NEED to pimp their program feel an obligation to leave their sig in a thread that is called "I'm drunk, how bout you?" The majority of threads in here are FUN, and entertaining. That's what this forum is about, and why pple come here more than any other forum. Some pple that come here aren't even webmasters. Leaving your sig here is like handing out your business cards at a bar on Saturday night. It can be effective for some, but it's not totally necessary, and doesn't make anyone a coward if they choose not to do it.

How do you know who knows what about people? Who decides when someone is anon, and when enough people know about his stuff? You don't know me but you'd probably consider me anon, when in fact a handfull of people here know what I do.

While I basically agree with Sleazy there is a down side to being open about who you are.

On another board I openly slammed a couple of guys who didn't like the fact that I called them sharks - now one of my email addys is being hit with hundreds of emails, each carrying a 5.8meg virus attachment.

Our defences are always up so its basically just a minor nuisance but its a good example of why it sometimes pays to remain anonymous no matter how right you are in what you say.
