I got fired, need advice
So today I found out I am losing my job at the car dealership as an internet manager.. I was bringing in leads, I was responsible in taking pictures, writing descriptions, posting them online.. building sites, driving traffic, getting phone calls etc.. I got about 60-90 leads a month.
A top sales person at our dealership said she was going to quit because she wanted to earn more money, she makes 80k and wanted to make more.. so they gave her my job and my pay because they dont want to lose her and I been there only 8 months compared to her 11 years.. my used car manager is thinking about quitting and following me where ever I go.. I got ppl telling me they cant do that to me.. or they need to serve me with a paper.. give me roi so i can go on unemployment.. im totally lost on all this... btw if anyone has work.. I am available :( I am from Ottawa, Canada. |
holy fucking shit ! that sucks man .. hope you find a job fast .. cant you apply for a similar job with a different dealership ?
|
yeah...i was going to say...i bet their competition would like leads every month
|
Another kick to the teeth eh?
Jesus man. That sucks, but, I dont really see why they cant get rid of you if they want to. They can simply lay you off and switch her title. I dont see any recourse on your end. But yea im sure they are entitled to paying you unemployment. All you can do now is beat feet and find a new job. What I dont get is... shes an asset of theirs... she wants more money... so they give her your job? Are you saying she was making less than you? or she is simply doing both jobs now for an increase in pay? |
Have you called the Ontario Labor Board? They deal specifically with situations like this and can get you your job back with pay if they fired you incorrectly.
|
I'm sorry to hear this and wish you good luck. My only advice is to not undervalue the benefits of trying to be employed by good people who will treat you fairly as you move ahead.

oh did I mention the salesperson and manager are best of friends. |
Canada has some bad ass labor laws... Compared to the States - you have ultimate power!
Like TheLegacy stated, call the labor board... as an exCanadian corp owner, that's a phone call we don't like ex-employees making, at all. |
8 months. you should be able to get ei for sure.
get the ei ball rolling today though and figure out the paperwork as need be. maybe servrence as well. just don't be a jerk off in the final days. |

Labor laws change from place to place and I have no idea what they are there, but your local labor board could certainly tell you. That being said, I would make it clear you expect a stellar letter of recommendation and take that to the dealer's biggest competition. Before you go, be sure to collect your stats, ie increases in leads:sales since your taking the position and that sort of thing - anything qualitative or quantitative that you can back up.

At least that's how it works here in NYS. |
take ei and use the free time to get your online hustle on.
|
what a cocksuckers, they dont care about little man
|
Sorry about your situation, but they must have some weird laws up there if they can't lay people off.
|
It sucks...
Hope you'll find a decent job soon! |

seek revenge, get their websites blacklisted in all search engines, dry the lead traffic up, sabotage all sem accounts, then hire some russians to to fuck with their sites on a weekly basis....done
|
Whatever you do, PLEASE do not show anyone how you do anything.
|
make sure you keep a backdoor open for those sites - get your revenge later on ;)

maybe talk to donny pauling he was doing the exact same job after he quit porn. |
that sucks, sorry man :(
if I was you, I would apply at other dealerships as their internet manager. actually, I have a PPC product that is dedicated to automotive dealers and their new & used inventory. Its similar to what Moore&Scarry has, but WAYYYY better. Hit me up if you want anymore info, but if it helps you, you can use it |
i would damage the websites.
make sure the dada crashes say a week after you leave and make sure they have no back up. and when they contact you, you say that sucks but i presume your new internet person will have made a backup. but at very least, make a copy of there data base and sell it to there competition. |
You need to talk to an attorney. Employment laws might be different in your jurisdiction.
|
shitting over your job as you leave wont help you as all dealerships / salesmen tend to be a small circle.
save the office space revenge fantasies for the movies. |

The consultation that they want you to do is worth far more money than they are going to be paying you. That consultation is gold, even if you are a total idiot.

I think it will take me 2 weeks just to show her how to watermark images in photoshop, I had to show the internet guy at another dealership just how to resize an image.. i thought this was common knowledge. |

make sure you get a record of employment for sure from them, and call the labour board tomorrow and ask them if you have to train someone just so it leads to you getting laid off and that person replacing you
dont be afraid to treat the company like the business it is, play hard ball because they would do it with you like they are now i dont know if you have to give up your leads/way of getting leads tell them you are willing to continue fulfilling your obligations for the next 2 weeks but that you dont feel your obligations include training someone to do that as its not the job you signed up for play hard ball man dont take this lying down!!! |
Sounds like you did a good job for them. Call all their competitors and tell them what you can do for them.
PS - fuck teaching the person taking your job how to do it. |
doing what you do is a specialized skill, you can't be expected to "train" someone who doesn't even have grasp of basic internet skills.
they are idiots who think doing what you did was some easy shit, lol. |
Got your email. Here's some advice Danny. Don't burn bridges. Get help emotionally and learn to live a more stable life. You have 2 kids and a very bright mind. You're an awesome worker but you fuck things up when talk shit and blow things way out like you did with me a few months ago. You could been driving an HSE instead of washing them. They're nice. I totaled mine the day of the shoot below and got a new one the next day.

I am going to have a hard enough time walking in there with a smile and doing my job for the next 2 weeks, let alone show someone how to do my job. btw I didnt sign anything of what my job duties are.. my job was generate leads and I did whatever I wanted to do to make that happen, problem is they dont really know what I did.. only my manager.. they believe I built sites and the traffic and leads just come outta nowhere and all they need to do is post some pictures online now.
|
More and more experienced and skilled people without work, really tough times.
|
Dude... do not teach her how to do that shit... save face at least... give them reason to keep you at very least... whatever comes of this - DO NOT TEACH HER WHAT YOU DO -
|
If you are half as good as you say you are, then there should be no shortage of dealerships waiting to hire you.
Offer your services to multiple dealers that do not want or need a full time web guy. Offer your services on an a la carte basis. Alternatively, make a deal with a few different dealerships and start brokering cars yourself with the leads that you can and will generate. Do NOT train your replacement under any circumstances. Make sure that you have records of everything that you have done. Should you actually go to some sort of arbitration or court, make sure that you have had all your activities recorded in a diary. Judges love that sort of thing. Best of luck |
There are some good labor lawyers in Ottawa. Try to find one you feel comfortable with and seek legal advice first. Don't sabotage anything - it can come back to bite you really hard. Do take all the stats on your performance with you. Ask for a letter of reference and imply that without one, there will not be any cooperation from you.
As for training the replacement - if you can overly complicate it, go for it. Make sure this replacement knows just how time-consuming the task is and what she will need to learn (SEO optimization, Photoshop, Digital photography, HTML, working with an incomplete content manager - does she know how to program, etc. etc. - hopefully the server is running some flavor of linux) and how it will likely impact negatively on her ability to make more income doing what she does best (i.e., selling and giving head to the manager). While all this is being negotiated, ping the other car dealers in the area (making sure that you stay away from any that are related to yours - e.g. if yours is a part of the Myers group, stay away from the others in the group). Good luck. |

I had to do it in order to take pictures and present the cars well online, but wasn't long till I had my own guy doing it.. http://www.lovingthecock.com/bryan.jpg - revenge is fun. HSE eh.. come on I was driving 2011 RRS supercharged right off the trucks every other day.. I got a nice car now, thou if I won't if I don't have a new job soon. |
