There is a million and three different ways to make money other then subscription to a site made popular bc of free. The answer is no... facebook2 or facebook3 would then emerge

I could see them trying to sell some of the games, but they would be dead if they charged a per user fee just to get on the site. I think they know that already though.

I'm not on Facebook, but even if they charged 1.99, they would still make 100 Million dollars a month from their 500 million users. Give the free users limited access to the site, and for full access, charge the 1.99.

It's a big gamble, but may be worth it. If they can't pay that, they are never going to pay for any of the advertising on there.

I'll even do the processing, someone, get mark zuckerberg on the phone.

no f way. i guess they can sell facebook t'shirts etc if they want money. if they charge $1 a year i believe we would see a competitor very soon.

They will charge and millions will pay. Eventually most ( FB, Twitter, Youtube etc ) will offer a low cost "freemium" or micro transaction model.

People joke sometimes about LinkedIn but ponder this fact:

2010: Tiger Global Management LLC purchased a 1% stake in LinkedIn for 20 million.

Their revenue streams:
a. subscription fees
b. advertising
c. services ( job placement services etc )

no way... in fact, being free makes ZUCKERBERG (the new maddoff) a multi millionaire, for doing nothing..

ZUCKERBERG does nothing, he just sit down, while millions of users work for free, adding content to facebook every day...

Im not sure if it's been posted but it's not that I wouldn't pay to be on facebook. It's the fact that most wouldn't pay and what makes facebook what it is, is the fact that it's free and everybody is on it.

And because of the need for a credit card payment, there goes most members under 19, simply for the reason that they cannot get their hands on one.

They own the rights of every picture uploaded, thinking about charging a fee is totally out of the question. So no, hell no, I won't pay for Facebook.

I use it a lot for my business, but it would probably kill it. Even with 5 % of their active users it would be a good investement thought.

It's a good business model. Give away something good for free. Get people insanely hooked on it. Start charging.

Some will bail, but the ones who are hooked like its the chronic, and can't function without it will pay, and in Facebook's case that's a lot of people.
